Tire choices a bit less pricey that the Michelin Defender LTXs?

This thread is referring to the Defender LTX M/S tires right? Anyone have a picture of their Tacoma with this on in like an oversized configuration i.e. 265/75/16's as opposed to the stock 245's?

I have 265/75R16 Defedner LTX M/S's on my truck, with a 1.75in lift up front and 2ish lift out back. I can get a pic a lil later if needed.

I have the Michelin LTX A2 on my truck. The defender was not offered at the time I bought them. They have about 55k miles and only look about 1/2 worn. Just my experience and they are more expensive than the defender. I just looked them up on tire rack and think they are about $70 more per tire now then when I paid for them at least 8 years ago

    Yeah.
I had the predecessor of the Defender when I drove a 2WD highway truck, and they were the best all-season tires I've ever owned. If you have a Costco around, they tend to have the best price even if you do a one-time membership purchase. If you put a lot of miles on, definitely worth it.

That said, the Kumho Crugen seems to be a good copy, and I put those on my daughter's 4Runner, mainly because her tires will die of dry-rot before they die of tread wear. They are a good alternative if you will replace due to age rather than mileage.

This. the HT51's are about the only competitor to the Defender LTX M/S's .... and like stated would only be considered if you will replace due to age vs mileage.

I'm in the same boat as you time-wise with my Michelin tires and wear. How long do you plan on keeping your tires and do you have many cracks from dry rot?

Put some Nokian Rotiiva's on my truck last fall. Excellent rain traction and very good snow performance.Very low road noise as well.

Lots of good options mentioned above. I'm running Cooper AT3 4S's. Check out the thread on them in the wheel and tire section. Huge improvement in every respect over the stock Bridgestones, and the don't look too bad on the truck as well.

    Cheers.

America’s tire matched Costco’s sale price on my set of 265/70/16 LTX defenders.

They actually cost LESS than the Hankook Dynapro ATM’s I purchased previously.

I actually like the stock 26/70/16 size tire, and combined with my 2018 Off-Road wheels the truck looks great even without a lift.

I'm on my second set of Kelly Edge AT's inexpensive, good control on pavement, beach, and dirt. They look good on the truck, and the wear is outstanding (40k+ on the last set 60% highway miles) and they are quiet. https://tirereviewsandmore.com/kelly-edge-at-reviews/

Well, old thread (or tread, heh!), I haven't driven the truck much, and still need to get tires.

I need to add to my OP that I am:
    - doing mostly relaxed driving on highway and backroads
    - not hauling much these days
    - living in MA, area with some minor snow, not much these days

Frugal as I am, I would be just happy to get something a bit better than the Dunlop AT (born in 2012, with 50K). Safe, wet traction is my main interest, don't care about wear, or noise.

my expenerice I starting using the michelin since 1984 on a 4runner. Need a new set and could not
find a set of michelin's for love or money bought cooper's and went from AZ to MI. Came home with
not a one cooper left on the 4runner. All had bubbles. Bought a new 2008 tacoma offroad waited until
factory tire wore out to buy michelin's. Went on a hunting trip should have bought the michelin's the only
factory tire left when I got home was the spare. Michelin's last, are strong, and work well enough offroad
on rocks, snow for 99% of people. On my 2019 only made it 30k miles before buying michelins. I can feel the defference.

I have Michellin AT2s on my 4x4 offroad. I replaced all 5 tires in 2016 and still have 3 of the original ones installed (the other 2 were replace in 2018 after they got punctured from road debris). The 8yr old tires still look brand new and I have not had any issues with a few inches of snow.

Well, I got a set of Firestone Destination LC3, and that should cover my needs!
My recent screwed-up alignment for hitting a tree stump was fixed in the process.

I came to realize riding on the original 2012 Dunlops (with 50K) was borderline dangerous, or, at least not ideal in, say, an emergency a swerve operation.

Other related question: What is the proper alignment interval for a Taco, normally on regular roads, no extreme terrain or such? Should a preventative align check be done, to see if it stayed on specs? It is not that expensive.

Michelins cost more yes. But every set Ive ever owned has lasted 60K. And their performance is always the best. So that is a long term win for cost benefit.

Also, LTX 2s can offroad very capably in my experience over 12 days in Utah and.in other member's experience.in Colorado doing much more challenging stuff. If you need a Swiss Army Knife DD and fun tire, I'm not sure you can do better than an LTX 2. Or whatever the 2023 equivalent model is.
