I'm brand new to the site. Just purchased a 2011 Tacoma 4cyl. I'm impressed with it overall.
My maintenance records are have gaps, when should I change my timing chain?

It doesn’t have a service interval because Toyota says it should last the life of the motor. As such it is your job to just adhere to oil and filter changes.

Welcome to TW! What many do when they buy a truck with unknown history is to just change all fluids, maybe spark plugs too depending on mileage (easy job on your motor). Other than that it’s a Toyota, just drive it

I wouldn't change it unless you're having timing issues. In theory (given appropriate maintenance, of course) it should last the life of the motor. But like any chain, it will stretch over time. But, again, unless you're having timing issues, it likely isn't an issue.

Odds are the frame will rot out before the timing chain gives out.

Before 100k miles...Oh wait that's subaru with their stupid belts.

Your chain should be good to go. If you ever overhaul the motor, change it out then just for piece of mind.

Wow you geniuses talking about chain stretch. It even has slack!! When there is no oil pressure. But as long as it doesn’t stretch excessively the tensioner piston will have no problem adjusting for it.

y’all scaring a newb with this is a stretch, ha!

A certain amount of slack is by design. Stretch is not. If there are no issues with any sort of timing, the chain is functioning as designed.
