Does anyone know of a write up on how to remove the timing chain tensioner? My goal is to re-seal it, as I believe it is leaking.. It looks pretty tough to get to, and would most likely need to remove the AC compressor. Here is the only pic I could find in the FSM

Good question. Looks like it just unbolts from the side. Does this help?

It's not a bad job at all. I do t remember if the AC compressor has to come off but if it does, it's only 4 bolts. Just leave the lines hooked up and let it dangle. Pop off the two bolts on the tensioner and it slides right out. It should have an o-ring on it to seal things up if I remember correctly. You do have to take the valve cover off to make sure the little lever that holds the tensioner in is released after installation.

I know this is a very old trend, but I had the same question as Duty Bootie. Were you able to pull the cover without dropping the oil pan... In a 95, 4x4, 3RZ the clearance between the oil pan and the front differential is very limited. I wonder how you were able to get this picture. The oil pan does not seems to be aligned, so it might be that is is dropped and sitting on the differential.... to be continued once solved :p

3rz to 2Rz bebuilt block and new heads
Cover has two pins at top....mates/ plugs straight up to bottom of head.....
So u have to drop pan at least enough to slide cover down to clear those ...

    Unless head is already off........

That’s why I deleted the balance shafts. So much crap taken off the engine that doesn’t need to be there.

I had to drop my OP(2RZ..basically same)

as far as the rear clearance in rear….
There is some flywheel shield that comes off. IIRC had to “set back” some tranny lines and T line brackets too

totally enough room to get socket with swivel and extension up there NP
