Truck is at 45k miles. I am asking the community what are your thoughts on resurfacing the rotors. Should I get new rotors or get the currents ones resurfaced?

A quick background of the truck. This will be its first brake job. The current pads are at 3mm so I know it’s time. The rotors seem to be in good shape but do have grooves.

Resurface rotors, new pads, bleed brakes = Gucci

For the small price difference I would go new.

I would resurface if they meet the specs, otherwise replace them. No need to toss perfectly good rotors.

Or this but keep the stock and have them turned so you have a set to swap each time so you don't need to wait for them to get turned.

If you have no vibrations, you can just swap out the pads. My oem rotors were replaced at about 70K with EBC rotors. At about 130K, I had my oem rotors resurfaced and reinstalled them. I’m coming up to 200K and can feel some out-of-true vibrations from the rotors. Will try to get the EBC rotors resurfaced.

I have this on my list of things to do.

I have pads in the garage already, I'm just going to resurface rotors and replace the pads. I think the pads were $40-$50 at auto zone. I want to say I got duralast gold class? Been a few months since I bought them.

A lot of the time (in my experience) resurfacing rotors almost as expensive as buying brand new ones. Just something to consider.

    45k seems pretty low mileage

Heavy stop and go miles? Heavy loads? Mountains?

Hopefully not one of the drivers who treat the brakes as a off/on switch.

Price the rotor turning to the cost of new. The difference could be minimal.

Either way, be sure to follow a proper bedding procedure.

When I do brakes and I feel I need rotors I buy new. Just swapping pads is a good choice if they weren’t worn and distorted the rotors. If I have any grooves I swap rotors and pads.

New brake rotors are $50-ish from Toyota. But good luck getting them. Last time I checked, they were sold out everywhere

New rotors have gotten insanely expensive so if someone still knows what they're doing in turning them, that may be a more economical option. I've always tried to get new ones and shopped around but it's crazy how much they've gone up in price. Definitely don't need to stay OEM if you don't want to but also don't go for the cheapest option.

Napa resurfaced my rotors for $18 each.

Rock auto has a few good quality options for around the $60 dollar mark.

The shipping always kills it for me. I wish I lived close to one of their warehouses for some of the bigger/heavier things like brakes and suspension parts

Resurfacing rotors that are already flat is kind of pointless. While it does give you a clean surface to start from, you will glaze and groove them in the first couple of hundred miles. Cutting them makes them thinner and more susceptible to warping. I would leave them alone.

I just put all new brakes on the second gen, which are the same as a 3rd gen. I went with Raybesto's Element 3 Hybrid pads and Element 3 coated rotors. I've had very good luck with them. After bedding in they have really good bite. Here's all the part numbers (ignore the caliper numbers, doubt you need those...)

Rotors are $38 a piece and the pads were $26. Biggest thing is to properly clean and lubricate pad mating surfaces and pins.

With the price of rotors now I never bother resurfacing them.

Also please ignore the post that are basically telling you to pad slap it...
