Adding torque settings for 2nd gen (they can be hard to find):

    • Inner tie rod end to power steering rack, 2WD/4WD: 84 N*m (851 kgf*cm, 62 ft.*lbf)
    • Outer tie rod end to spindle, 2WD: 49 N*m (500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf) NOTICE: If the holes in the cotter pin are not aligned, tighten the nut an additional 60°.
    • Outer tie rod end to spindle, 4WD: 91 N*m (928 kgf*cm, 67 ft.*lbf) NOTICE: If the holes in the cotter pin are not aligned, tighten the nut an additional 60°.

Are there any symptoms of bad tie rods while driving?

If you haven't replaced your '05 tie rods I would do it. My inners were pretty beat at 71K miles. TRE's were in fair shape, but replaced anyway.

I went with Duralast inner and outer. Cost was just over $100 and rented the tools from auto store. Tacoma has plenty of room to work, so no tight spaces to piss you off.

Yup. Two of each. Use original boot.

Follow the OP's guide in post #1.

EDIT: I used a slightly different procedure on installing, but same result in the end.

Pics from when I did mine.

Stock is silver, Duralast is black

Question for you guys..... would bad rods make the truck pull to one side? Lower and upper ball joints have been replaced within the past 2 years. New tires and alignment on truck....it still pulls.

Edit: I just saw a previous post where question was already asked

As a NASCAR fan, you can use a string to help set toe close enough to give you time to get an alignment. I have used this method a few times after knocking my alignment out on the trails.

    Set the steering wheel centered

Tie a loop on one end of a string, hook it on a bracket on the rear leaf spring.

Pull the string across the center of the back tire making sure side tread blocks are not interfering.

Pull it all the way to the front and check if the string touches the front and back edge of the front tire at the same time.

Adjust as necessary. Remember that adjusting one side can turn your steering wheel and the other wheel, so move the string from side to side and keep rechecking.

Bringing back an old post, but it doesn’t seem like Autozone carries the inner rods anymore, ES4456.

just copy and paste ES4456 in Ebay, lots of hits, or try O'Reillys

They do. My link is bad because time, but search AutoZone for the part number, ES4456, and it's $18.99

Whoa whoa whoa, now its saying it doesn't fit my 2013 Tacoma??? Thought 05-15 were basically the same in steering components in 4x4.
