Sup y’all! I just installed my new Thule Tepui RTT, and now that I have it fully installed, it’s came to a realization that the RTT is very easily removable by anyone with a socket wrench lol.

Does anyone know if there are security nuts somewhere online that I can get for a little more “peace of mind” that it won’t be going anywhere? The bolts & nuts are 13mm.

Can u get a security cable and loop it somewhere and add a lock ? Chances of anyone stealing it is really low … the thing is not that exactly light and they would need a truck to load it into . It’s not a high demand item . I would be more worried about them stealing the tailgate than a roof top tent .

So many other things easier to steal and abscond with than a RTT. That is one thing I have never heard of being stolen, and I work in a store that sells them. (Knocking on wood for you now!)

the security cam footage of people stealing rtt, they use an angle grinder and cut off the racks. security bolts won't really do anything in that case

Might be easier just to steal the truck and leave the RTT attached as a bonus.

Make sure you buy some $200 specialized RTT locking nuts and then leave the super common bedrack hardware the same like everyone else. A thief couldn't possibly unbolt the bedrack/rails from bedrack so long as the RTT is super bolted to it :anonymous:

and IF you do buy specialized hardware, you'd be smart to not share what you bought, post it in your build thread, etc. It doesn't help to buy this stuff if a thief can easily scout these pages to find their next victim. Call it crazy, but yes, it happens..

Yup.. Like I said, after the fact Im looking at the set up and seeing allen bolts that will unscrew and there goes half my rack. I dont regret the Wheel Every Weekend brackets as they are a cleaner mount and dont trash my cross bars like the bolts themselves did. but yeah... theres alot of other things more important
