For those that don't know, you can't tune in closed loop, as the ECU starts making adjustments that get very hard to track with logging software, so you have to maintain open loop. Open loop occurs in normal operation two ways on these trucks: "cold" O2 sensors, and Wide Open Throttle (WOT).

Removing O2 sensor(s) triggers open loop condition for a pseudo random interval before it pulses closed loop (idfk how), makes some adjustments to the region you drive in for about 30 seconds, then fails into open loop for the remainder of the drive. However, this effectively only gives about 5 mins of street tuning time, which isn't enough for capturing adequate diverse driving.

So I'm thinking the other way now: the TPS. As far as I can tell, their use is one thing: telling the transmission when to downshift when you floor it. But I want to be sure. I did disconnect in the driveway and it stayed open loop indefinitely. I reconnected and it maintained open loop with a pending condition (meaning it will fix itself with driving).
Does anyone know of any implications of disconnecting the TPS that I might not be thinking of?

    Thanks in advance

EDIT: To clarify, this will not be permanent.

How are you plan on "Tuning" your truck? Open loop will kill your catalytic converter eventually

TPS is kick down , idle off (iac control), WOT (a/c off) and part of calculated load. It's important.

The old days you'd induce open loop so you could set base timing. Sometimes it was a vacuum line, sometimes it was a pin out jumper.

Tell me more, what is calculated load used for?

Oh I'm way past that concern.

    Fuel tables, emissions controls.

So the goal of OBDII is to get to operating closed loop as fast as possible while maintaining stochiometric ( I think 14.7:1?) fuel trim as best possible to reduce emissions passively.

So it matches calculated load against ECT, IAT for fuel trim tables. Calculated load is an equation that helps the ecu understand what its doing.

Looooooooots of reading on this stuff. https://www.sae.org/standards/content/j1979_201408/

So being that it is disconnected, will it interfere with fuel trims without reporting it? (via OBDII)
The goal here is to get the ECU to stop making corrections, after all.

Doesn't the tuning software have a function to turn off closed loop?
