I have a 2.7L 03 taco. I am getting a cai for it and considering a throttle body spacer. What does it actually do and is it worth it.

TB Spacer wont do anything more than make it whistle. Same with a CAI on that engine. Best off doing the Deck Plate mod. Under 20 buck, and gives a decent little gain.

only if you wana pay $100 for a "cool sound". i won a new one on ebay for $24 bidding. I knew it wasnt gona do anything but wth... adds a bit of bling and i kinda like the sound. probably adds half a horse just because it replaced the "D" gasket with an "o" one.

Not sure if the TBS will make any HP difference, but I installed the TBS with my airaid CAI a while back and was actually surprised at the gains I saw. Wootwoot

Haha uhh...I saw a 2-3 mpg gain and a bit more responsive throttle on my standard v6. It's noticeable!

Physics says, and I'm quoting, "they don't work". Most 'mods' that people see a mpg increase, are basically getting the placebo equivalent of car mods. They are looking for mpg improvements, so they drive different, and see the improvement. Even those that 'drove exactly the same' (impossibly btw) see what they're hoping to see. By the same token, unless you're driving a 5hp gokart, you're not going to notice a difference in a true 5hp increase, especially considering that increase is only occurring for a very brief time period under very specific circumstances. If you have one, it won't hurt anything to put it on. If you don't have one, save your money.

This is one of those things, if any manufacturer could just make their spacer 1" thicker, for essentially 0 cost, and advertise another 5hp or 5mpg, they would be all over it like stink on a skunk. Car builders are in a constant game of 1 upmanship with every other builder out there, they have 0 reason to intentionally leave something so simple out of their engines, that they spend millions of $'s on designing.

My two cents, I say the CAI is worth it, the TBS not so much unless you want a cool little whistle. I definitely don't drive any more conservative :p Anyways. My views, which will be disagreed with I'm sure, is that the TBS and CAI is a great combo (especially with an aftermarket exhaust) as the TBS is "supposed" to create a turbine effect which goes nicely with the CAI. I did see slight gains in hp and mpg. Just my view! :D

I don't have any experience with these but my opinion would be to put one on cuz I personally like the look regardless of input and gains kinda wish I had money for the snorkel too :D

Any recommended brands? Also I think I'm going to do the deckplate mod can someone tell me more about it (what are the gains, what parts do i need, what brand air filter)?

I ask the same question to that statement.

Agreed that a TB spacer will do nothing, and from personal experience a deck plate mod also does nothing.
OP, a good filter is all you need IMO. Not a lot of mods (short of forced induction) will yield much power gain.

Yes I'm starting to realize that too. What is the best air filter for a 4 banger?

    X2 They are great.
Best cleanable/reusable is probably the AFE Dry Pro S. It is basically like a K&N but without any oiling to contaminate the MAF.
