Hey guys.. so I effed up while cleaning my throttle body. After cleaning, it gave me a code indicating the throttle body was malfunctioning. I ordered a genuine oem replacement on eBay.

My question is, do I have to reprogram or do anything after I install it? Or can I just plug and play it?

Should be plug and play. Disconnect your battery for about 30 minutes ahead of installation.

I’m not a wizard at mechanics but relatively proficient. Is it possible your truck computer just needed a short drive to recalibrate the change in functionality of having a cleaned throttle body? When I cleaned mine, the truck was idling a bit off for a few minutes, thought I frecked up, took it for a short drive, problem solved.

Check the vacuum lines. They could have been dislodged while cleaning the throttle body.

I disconnected mine while cleaning and it still gave me the error, with it idling at 1500 and hardly any throttle response. Would not rev higher than 2500. I also checked the lines and looked fine. I never took out the throttle body while cleaning, but I did move open the flap. The error code brought back a malfunction of the throttle body itself. ‍♂️

Interesting and unfortunate. I'm planning on cleaning mine soon and didn't think it was that 'delicate'. Really surprised moving the flap would require it to be replaced...

Yep it was disconnected...funny how a preventative maintenance caused this ‍♂️

Might be a dumb question but are you sure you don't have a bent pin in the electrical connector?

I also have never had a problem cleaning those things on the vehicle. I assume you used throttle body cleaner and not brake cleaner right?

Lol yes I used throttle body cleaner, I'll double check the connection in the am.

How did you open the butterfly (flap)? The 4.0 at least, is drive by wire, no throttle cable. The butterfly is motor driven. You might have stripped the teeth of of the gears.

So did you sort out your problem?! What i learned , after cleaning my throttle body, 1st gen 97, is that yiu are not supposed to clean them. The carbon build up is what keeps the seal alive from the wear of the butterfly to housing contact.. still trying to work it out

2nd gens don't have that problem, many people with 1st gens send theirs to maxbore to get them fixed.
