Buddy of mines gave me a gallon of coolant a while ago. Was thinking of doing the drain & fill method sometime soon, and changing out the green stuff that is currently in mines for this. This coolant is orange, so I'll have to do a distilled water drain and flush 3 or more times, and it appears to have some good specifications (150,000 miles protection).

Anyone here have some thoughts on this? I know it is generally recommended to use Toyota red/pink on these trucks, but I'm just having a hard time trying to be so delicate with a 1st Gen Tacoma. Still, the thought of screwing up something is at the back of my mind.. Thanks.

Silver xtra-cab,old man emu 3 inch lift, 2016 wheels, arb front bumper, receiver hitch, Automatic transmission cooler, tundra front calipers, new frame.
the water pump went out on my 5.7 tundra at 70,000 miles so the pink stuff didn't do anything all that special for me and its a fortune! I use silica free green stuff mixed with distilled water, the cheapest I can find and change it every three years

Thanks for the information. This sort of makes me think that the reason why so many people who post overwhelmingly positive results on here for using specifically Toyota Red/Pink, are because they are far more likely to follow regular maintenance of their cooling system fluid.

    From the 2002 manual:

"With ethylene−glycol type coolant for a
    proper corrosion protection of aluminum
    components
Do not use alcohol type antifreeze or
    plain water alone."

I'll be doing this process in a few hours with the mentioned coolant as it fits within the parameters mentioned above. I will also make sure to post some updates after some time.
