This is not a sale thread. I just want opinions on value.

    Hey Everyone,

My wife and I are hoping to welcome our first child soon so I am considering trading for a full size truck. I know the Tacoma works for some with kids, but I am 6'4 and my wife is fairly tall and rides with her seat far back as well so I am not confident it will work for us in the long term(more kids planned in quick succession). Used values are also super high right now with all of the shortages so I am thinking about jumping on it.

I have done a lot to this truck over the past few years. I will do my best to list everything below. What do you think is a reasonable dollar value to look for on a trade or sale?

2019 Tacoma SR5 Double Cab 5 Foot Bed 36.5k miles
    • Diamondback cover
    • ARB Bumper
    • ARB recovery point
    • ARB dual compressor mounted under hood
    • ARB front air locker
    • ARB rear air locker
    • ARB diff breather kit
    • Nitro 4.88 gears
    • Warn VR 8000 winch with synthetic rope
    • 45% life ~32" BFG KO2s
    • OME BP-51 remote reservoir Front suspension
    • SPC adjustable upper control arms
    • Icon RXT leaf pack
    • Icon 2.0 rear shock absorber
    • CBI Aluminum Skid Plates (front, mid, no fuel tank)
    • Prinsu Cab Rack
    • RCI sliders
    • SwitchPros5100 (we boost, lockers, compressor switch)
    • Wires organized on power tray switchpro mount
    • ICOM ham radio mounted underseat with a mic jack in the dash
    • That ram mount rail thing (not the powered one)
    • Probably some other stuff (lol) I will try and update if I think of anything else.
    • The tent and rack it is sitting on pictured will not be traded. We are keeping the tent for the new truck and probably selling the kbvoodoo on here.
Again this is not a sales thread. We just had a change of heart on when to have kids so I think I am ready for my slightly larger, more comfortable family truck. Please let me know what you think a reasonable number to look for at the dealer is. I have it blue booked in the 37k range but that is without some of the other stuff that they don't give you the option to list in KBB. I am not under any delusions that I am going to make back my "investment" because I know trucks aren't investment. I am just hoping to get at least 40 or so to put towards a nice basic new f150 or something.

    Thanks

Mods don’t help your trade in value. Best thing to do would be return to stock and part out everything. If you want to sell it as one then a private sale would
    Be the best option

Unfortunately all your mods/aftermarket stuff won't mean much to the dealer towards trade in value but you can be sure they will make a ton when THEY sell it. They will give you the trade in value for a stock truck. I would sell it yourself.

I agree with this. Dealership is not gonna compensate for the added parts. Probably would get more money back parting it if op is willing to take the time and effort to do so.

I would guess around $40k is reasonable for a private sale. Let us know how it goes and good luck!

Agree with above advise. Unfortunately you will not recoup costs of your MODs on a dealer trade, may recoup some if you go the private sale route.

In this market you can sell high but you have to buy high. I was at a dealership and got offered 36 for my ‘17. On the flip side of that coin, the cheapest tundras on the lot had over 50k on the Odometer and was priced at 49 k. I’m 6’2 and have 2 kids under 3. In this market I’ll just slide my seat up a notch lol. Best bet is trade for a new f-150 xl or xl with the stx package if
You can find one for msrp. I had a 2020 stx. The cab space was awesome but I like the overall quality of the Tacoma.

Yeah that is kind of my thinking as well. My buddy just bought a used king ranch with 140k miles for 30k and I just can't stomach spending that on a used truck with that many miles so I am probably going new. Math wise... I can get a brand new xlt with the fx4 package and everything I want for around 52. If I can trade the tacoma at 40 and put 5 down (iirc) I can have like a $140 36 month payment with 0% interest which is very very doable.

I would love to get more than 40 out of the truck just because I have more than that in it (maybe 50 or so total for stuff that I am not keeping) but at the same time I might accept a decent trade number like that while the market is what it is over gambling on trying to recoup all of my money. We are going through an insurance claim (pipe leak destroyed floors), replumbing house, and fixing my wife's car because someone hit her. All of that while having a baby on the way so my mental energy to try and private sell for more money if I can get a decent trade offer is pretty low.

I would sell tt fixed up and start at $45K and go no lower than $40K. I paid $43,500.00 for my 2022 TRD Off Road. I have seen stock ones with 30k plus on them they wanted $40K plus for used 2000 and 2001s. A kid (I am 70) will want it who can't or does not know how to fix one up. It is a Nice Looking Truck should go fast if done right. A dealer wants to resell it for a profit and will either jack up the price of a new truck or give you less then the value. I sold my 2005 Dodge Ram 4x4 2500 with 189,000 miles on it for $20K to buy my 2022 TRD with. A dealer would only give me $10K for it and laughed when I said I will get more. Just remember only the person who wants your truck will buy it and be happy and the others are just talking. Added I though it was a TRD.

The SR5 trim level and your current mileage (almost 40k miles) will hold you back in resale value. Most prefer a TRD trim and you can get a new one with zero miles and a full warranty for what you want out of it. Maybe even for less. Sell your mods and then sell the truck private party or trade it and save on sales tax on the next full-size truck.

I'd guess low to mid 30s in stock SR5 trim form private party value and maybe a couple grand for the extras if sold separately.

If you did 35k-37k all said and done selling the truck and extras separately private party I think you'd be lucky. Look at it from a buyers perspective. The truck is roughly 5 years old with almost 40k miles and has a set of tires that are more than half worn. 40K is unrealistic.

Dealer will probably offer 32k-33k trade in value in stock SR5 form.

You might convert it back to stock and see what Carvana or one of those type places might offer you. Good Luck and Congratulations!

Sell it as is to a Tacoma enthusiast or sell the parts individually. A dealer will just screw you on any trade-in.
