Been running mobile 1 syn for a looong time now but test after test I watch shows that redline kicks the shit out of every other oil out there. I'm mostly a city driver with a little interstate and truck runs great but if I can prolong it's life I'd like to. Anyone run redline on the reg?

Waste of money imo, but I guess run whatever makes you happy.

My $0.02 is even run of the mill engine oil has improved to the point of being really good, so regular intervals with name brand and a decent filter gets you 99.9% of what you'll ever need. The last 0.1% is in theory and might make a difference if you're for reals racing your truck.

    It's good oil.

But so is what you already use.

If you don't extend your OCIs (based on lab tests of your truck, your oil) you are wasting money to buy ANY boutique oil on a mass produced plebian vehicle. Especially one not worked hard.

And if you did extend your OCIs to whatever the lab recommended, it's doubtful you'd even break even.

I stick with the cheapest synthetic in the proper viscosity and change every 12,500 miles. Got 177k miles on my Tacoma and the engine is in perfect condition

If you like changing oil that often just use conventional

    There's definitely logic to that.

Still, I run Mobil1 5W30 on 5k intervals. Since it's usually about $25 per 5 quart jug at Walmart I figure it's barely more than conventional and then if I run long or have a stretch of severe duty 'wheeling or lots of cold weather then I don't have to be worried.

I do oil analysis periodically and I'm neither taxing the oil nor my engine. I don't want my truck engine to be an experiment in longevity so I like to stay well within the margins. Overkill never fails.

I use Redline MT90 in the manual transmission and transfer case but I use conventional oil in the engine.

About to acquire a 98 yota Land cruiser, looking forward to tinkering with that beast, test drove today, great shape from what I can tell but not pumped about the yota V8 but digging the torque even though my trd will roast it but you're talking a major weight difference. Should be a fun project

    Agreed!

MT90 is the shizzle, I run the stuff in every manual transmission I've owned since I discovered it many years ago.

I go back and forth about synthetic in the diffs, sometimes I'll run plain Castrol, sometimes Redline. Depends on if I'm flush with money when time comes. The axles seem to foul the lube more quickly than anything else so I change it a lot. Not a lot a large volume of oil when asked to do with long highways trips in hot weather, water crossings, etc. One thing I do notice is the diffs do seem to run cooler (using the calibrated "back of hand" gauge) on synthetic so I don't think it's necessarily completely wasted money. But cheaper clean oil is in my mind better than pushing expensive oil too long.

I use Valvoline Synpower 75W90 in the diffs because I can get it cheap when it's on sale. I wait for it to go on sale at one of the local auto parts chains for $6/qt and I buy a few of them.

Currently changing approx 7k miles, oil still comes out golden in color, wouldn't hesitate going to 10k
