Hey all just found these rancho rs5000x shocks and they sound like a good shock. I drive my Tacoma on the road 99% of the time and only go in the dirt when camping. For me, should I do the rancho rs5000x, Bilstein 4600's, or kyb monomax shocks? I am looking to have a smoother ride geared to road performance, not off roading.

Rancho doesn't have a lot of love on here. I've gone with 5100's and it rides great on the road. But still can handle a lil dirt road travel to go camping and fishing.

Rancho RS5000s are on the rougher side

i have had the Rs5000's for years on the rear of my DC 4wd. They have worked well for me. Ill be getting some 5100's for the rear in the near future.

I'm not gonna spend the cash for the 5100's at this time, I want to maintain stock height and have a good quality shock with a softer ride. I've heard that the 4600's can be a little stiffer than others...

I’ve heard good things about monroe shocks for a “smoother” on-road ride.

But the bilsteins are easily the most popular aftermarket shocks (the 5100s are because they are an easy cheap way to lift the truck), the 4600s are basically the same as the 5100s.

You can run 5100's at stock height also. But check rockauto for prices on shocks.

Not the rears... the rears are for 1-3” of lift.

I regret both my rough country and now my Rancho shocks. Dont' try to save money and do it right the first time or it will cost you more money in the long run.

Yeah the 5100's are a little too rich for my blood, why the dislike for Rancho shocks? are they just poor quality?

I had rancho rs5000s on my Tacoma and another jeep. The quality is fine but they ride rough

For me they seem stiff and ride pretty rough.

So my rig is a 01 prerunner crew cab with a snug top shell, for my situation, which is the best shock for me in your opinion? Sorry for all the ?'s, I don't wanna screw this up.

Ive definitely seen people run the at stock height, but the manufacturer says 1” lift or higher. If you run only on the street you *might* be okay, but I think you are likely to bottom out the shocks beforethe bumpstops.

Shocks don’t bear any weight, so having a camper shell shouldn’t affect your shock selection.

If you are trying to keep stock height and you are sure about that try looking at OEM shocks. If those are too pricey you can try Rock Auto and get either Monroe or KYB. I have had good luck with KYB on my wifes car.

Kyb are decent. Had them on my sons 89. He liked the ride.
