Looking to get different opinions regarding the Pros and Cons of Plasti-Dip. Been thinking about dipping my emblems and all the other chrome on my truck. I'm very anti-chrome. of course in the future i plan on buying aftermarket bumpers but from what ive seen, plasti-dip seems like a good temporary solution. thoughts?

If you use the search bar there is 8 pages of threads ,I believe, of peoples thoughts on everything imaginable on plasti dip. The search bar is in the top right corner at the top of the screen.

I plasti dipped my front grill surround and then color matched it with dupli color over the plasti dip it's been on for 5 months with no issues. Just small rock chips nothing major, if I want to go back to chrome I will just peel it.

Yeah, I used the gray plasti dip and went over with the color matched MGM paint and clear coat. To make it easier take the surround off the grill instead of taping it off. I also did my front emblem

Just take your time wait around 10-15 min between coats, the dupli color paint is really runny. This was my first time doing any of this also. Do the plasti dip first and wait till the next day and do the paint.

Derped out all my chrome. But I decided I wanted to see my emblems again since I have a black truck. So i'm glad I didn't paint them permanently.

thats definitely one of the pros im hearing about plasti dip. i have a white truck so i think the black will still stick out, but yea if for any reason i dont like it, its easy to take off. how was the process of doing your emblems? how difficult was the lettering?

It's as easy as it can get. Just tape off where you don't want it so you have a rectangle with your letters, once you've done a few layers you just peel it off and the derped part between and around the letters just peels off with it. Just take a tooth pick and get any remaining stuff off like inside the O's etc. Just don't skimp on the layers or it won't peel off very easy.

Ive used duplicolor vinyl and fabric paint over dip before and it turned out good. The vinyl paint wont chip or flake when bent or hit and bonds to the dip quite well. Never got a chance to peel it off.

I dipped my flares, wheels, and badges. The flares and badges are holding up still, wheels have needed some patches from tire services. When I color matched my grille, I also had the idea of painting over the dip, but only did it on my emblem as an experiment. That too hasn't chipped or anything.

Do it man, I did mine. No pic at the moment. But just make sure to box off the emblems with painters tape and newspaper or cardboard, like maybe half inch to 3/4 inch box around the badge and add at least 6 layers of plastic dip make like 3 short passes per layer and wait 5 min to dry in warm weather. Enough to cover the badges and fill the space in your boxed off area to peal it off after your done. I would not recoment doing it in 100+ weather cause it will make your plastic dip velvet if you eff up try to cover it with a couple more layers. If it doesn't work, peal it off and start over. That easy my friend. Good luck
