Wondering everyone's thoughts on motorcycle hitch carriers? Just got a Vespa GTS250cc and feel it would be nice sometimes to take it with me on trips and just for taking it to get serviced.

Not sure if anyone has had issues with them? Saw the cheap harbor freight one and also the more expensive ones.

I have a few moto buddies that use the harbor freight carrier with no issues. Average motocross bike is about 230 pounds so you should be fine.

I had a steel one that I used to haul dirt bikes on without issue. I did haul a 05 CBR1000 from PA to KY once too, I was more nervous on that trip but still no issue

I have a steel one as well that I use to use when hauling around a 250cc dirt bike. I *thought* about putting my KLR650 on it once, but the forums suggested that was a bad idea with a bike aptly called a Pig, so I never tried it. I normally trailer anything heavier than a dirt bike, especially my Harley, but I really can’t see a 250 bike within the carriers weight limit being a problem. As others have mentioned you can really feel them bounce around, so a strap on either side to act as stabilizing bars help with some of the movement.

I bought one from HF and hauled a heavy DR350 for a few hundred miles. It did great, but it takes time to sort out the best strapping method.

While the MaxHaul one I have had for probably 8+ years works fine, if I were to buy a new one it would be a MotoTote or a similar higher quality one.

Kinda my thought on it too, except as a first buy. I’m just looking at the cheaper m3 model since it would be for a grom I haven’t bought yet

I have zero need for a Grom, but something about them just screams fun. I loved the one Meso has in his build thread. I’m probably too tall to ever actually buy one, but they are cool either way.

How tall are you? I've seen some big folks riding them. Any average adult would fit fine.

The new Monkey is pretty lusty also.

I’m on the north end of 6’3 with long legs. I normally put forward controls on any bikes I ride and I’m currently looking at floorboard extensions for my Street Glide. So a Grom would be fun to ride, just not practical to own. I love the new Honda Trail 125 “Postie” bike though!

Wow, you posted this as I was typing my reply talking about this exact bike. Good taste!

I bought one off CL and loaded it up with my Yamaha XT250. I wasn't confident enough of it to ever even take it for a drive.

    IMG_0397_LI.jpg

And, since I pretty much need to haul two dual sports at a time, I just added a couple front wheel chokes to my utility trailer and head to my mountain cabin with confidence.

    IMG_9946.jpg

Good luck. Not sure where you live, but I'm pretty sure I still have mine and am willing to part with it.

I've had a steel one for a decade. I love it as it is easier to load than using a ramp, and I can leave my canopy on. Airbags are almost neccessary to reduce sway.

What do you carry on yours? Granted I have a trailer and 3 motorcycle wheel chocks that I prefer, but now I’m curious as to what I could get away with in my Tacoma using a steel hitch carrier if the need ever arises.

Just have to sit on a milk crate for any ride over 30 minutes LOL

I’m a big Honda fan and love the old 110’s and the new 125’s. Not sure if any of you all watch Mighty Car Mods, but their videos make me want one even more, just no space for it and those little bikes aren’t cheap!

My wife saw me looking at the new KLR’s with ABS the other day and she immediately asked where in the world I planned to put it…
