Thor's Lightning Air Compressor

Was curious if any members here have one of these? Read the specs, but wanted to see if anyone here has one, and does it fit behind the back seat wall?

Looks a tad pricey for me, but my 100$ unit has a hose thats a tad too short and is slightly annoying.

I'd rather have a mini compressor, portable compressor and a good compressor at home, all for 452 CDN$

 

My 2 cents in lieu of anyone having an actual review... a quick google shows about 100000 variations of this same style of compressor. The Napa/Balkamp model is only $150 (300lpm is 10.6cfm). I can only assume an overseas shop is just cranking these things out with any colors/logos you can dream. I would be reluctant to commit extra money without seeing some amount of youtube reviews but I am a cheapass. It's really hard for me to believe that these can perform twice the volume rate at half the price of the ARB/Vlair stuff but can't rule it out. These compressors get hot and need to breath to run efficiently. I wouldn't advocate to put them inside the truck personally.

IF any members got this one, please comment, as for price , I'm not worried about it, it's in my price range anyways.

 

The airflow rating seems exceptionally weird given if you've bought an air compressor for tools before, getting into that level needs a ton of power. That's in the range of a 3HP compressor and the piston size on the compressor side alone is substantially larger than that unit. Even 0psi range it doesn't really make sense.

You can find thousands and thousands of normal compressor reviews. On these units everywhere it's a handful and always 5 star. Doesn't pass my sniff test.

From a legit company, here is a product comparison showing 0 CFM ratings across the entire portfolio. Look at what the units look like that can do 5-10. Hint hint, they don't even exist for 12V:

Viair 88p get all 4 tires (33) to pressure from 20 psi without blowing a fuse or needing a rest.

Do you have the 400w 120v outlet in the bed? If so, you can run this compressor. Makes quick work for airing back up. I use it every weekend.

 

"10.6cfm" rating number by itself is meaningless nonsense. At what PSI does it output 10.6cfm?

50% duty cycle sucks. Several cheaper 100% duty cycle options.

You gotta figure out a way to get 90 amps of 12v to it. Who wants to deal with that?

Fair enough. If you want it concealed I suggest getting a compressor mounted under the hood. Most 12v plug in ones are garbage. Just leave a 3/8" compressor hose with air chuck behind the seat.

 

The 12V plug has a amp limit. And most that plug into the 12V are for cars with baby tires, not truck tires.

Viair 88p and above (300, 400, etc) connect directly to the battery, not the 12V plug inside.

 

I'm set on something that can fit behind my folded seat, And take with me in another vehicle if needed like the family van, you get it. I'm set on 1 option....

Very well. All of these units come with dimensions. I suggest you measure behind the seat and check for yourself.

My 2 cents, this is the wrong way to go if you are in any way serious about offroading.

Viair 88p fits in the underseat (driver side ... passenger has the jack) cubby the seat in its provided zip pouch. I forget it is there until I need it.

 

I have never had that become a problem - been driving trucks for 25 years. Once you start driving the air warms up and is at the "proper" PSI. I live in NY so we see 80+ degree temp changes throughout the year.

In this case, I would just buy a proper compressor and keep it in your garage or basement...way cheaper, more versatile, built better.

Amazon (only $176!), AliExpress, Napa, and Summit Offroad. Morrflate also sells it as the TenSix with an upgraded hose coupler. I've had the AliExpress version for 5 years and it's been solid. It's as fast as the ARB Twin according to testing by the Australian 4WD channels. Like the ARB Twin, it'll be throttled by the tire's shrader valve flow rate. To get maximum throughput you'll need to use a hose kit that can fill up two tires at the same time. Filling up a single 35" tire on my truck from 15 psi to 30 psi takes 50 sec.

That's the single-piston version of the Thor compressor, about as bulky.
