both I guess. The best way to explain it is it feels like it is all horsepower and no torque especially when there is a 5mph headwind or more.

You need a 3rd pedal. Hills aren't a problem with the right gear.

This is what made me go back to a full size. Towing into heavy headwinds with my utility trailer that has a ramp that catches wind made the Taco scream just to do 65 MPH. That, and it was shaking like crazy doing it. I live in the rockies and have serious wind on the regular. I have to be able to tow through that without wanting to suck start a shotgun.

By the time you turn around you could've gotten up the hill. What kind of boat you pulling? Sounds like you bought the wrong truck, tundra would do it fine.

17ft long john boat. I really think I just need more torque but I don't want to do anything that will void my 5 year warranty

the bizarre thing is this truck has 391 axles in it for some reason. seems like it should feel a lot better pulling stuff with 391s. All other trucks I've owned have had 342 to 373s but they didn't have this high HP low torque feeling...

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

Last year I went 1200 miles towing at max GVW, put it in fourth gear and let it eat.

At 70 the RPM is about 3400 so well into the power band.

Between 11 - 12 MPG all the way.

sounds like she was screaming for a long time. What did you oil look like after that trip? Did you engage ECT power?
