    So there’s a local tune thing happening. Has anyone done this? Is it worth it? Will it mess the truck up down the road possibly?

    There are thousands of tuned trucks on this site and plenty of threads with great info.

    No you will be fine. Honestly really happy also. Just make sure you get the right tune for you. Some tunes have more throttle sensitivity and you will get accustomed to the sensitivity. Think muscle memory , just give your foot time to adjust

    I just had a KD Maxx tune done yesterday. First time I’ve ever had done on any vehicle. I wasn’t thrilled with the way the truck drove overall, especially the immediate downshift after easing off the throttle, plus the 30-40mph stutter step it does. After a ten minute ECU update and Tune both of those issues are gone. The ECU is still “learning” my driving at this time, but so far it has made a big difference. I was on the fence about this for a while, but I’m glad I had it done.

    Enough for now
    Give it a try. The OVTune woke my truck up and has made highway driving safer. You can always have someone flash it back

    Do I think that my truck would run better with a tune? Yup! But…
    Now that I’m retired I don’t have $200 or $300 of mad money laying around. With that said, if I had the money I’d get a tune done in a heartbeat.

    Had a SibiTune done on my ‘21 Tacoma with the fellas at Sibi Built in Santa Ana, California and I’d 100% recommend it. Although I’m not too sure how different it is from an OVTune or KD Maxx tune, it definitely fixed all my shift points and basically brought my MPGs back to almost stock (I’m lifted almost 3 inches with 285/75/17 tires). Feels amazing to drive without having that Tacoma lag when needing to pass semis or other vehicles.

    If your truck is still under warranty make sure that you take any potential warranty implications into consideration in making your decision.

    Whoa whoa whoa. I just got my 2022 a week ago… and I noticed that this truck shifts like junk!! Looks like i need to start reading.. can someone possibly summarize these “common” tunes to fix this busted ass gear shift lag and crappy throttle response??!? Im a heavy footer to the speed limit (+9, always). This stock shifting aint it.

    I'll be brief, just get a KDMax tune. I am the South Texas KD Tuning Group guy and I have tuned at least 25 trucks from other tunes to the KDMax, but have not heard of anyone going from the KDMax to another tune (though I'm sure it has happened).
    Pretty much any tune from a reputable tuning outfit is going to be better than stock and there are some good ones out there, but the KDMax is the most popular for a reason.

    The KD Group has tuned many 2022's already. I personally have tuned three 2022's in the last 3 months.

    Any of us guys in Texas can help you:

    @KalebG98 Kaleb in Waco
    @alfredogarciia Alfredo in RGV
    and me in San Antonio/South Texas

    The tunes help, but the problem is the gearing. I got better mpg with the KDmax tune when I had stock gearing. It definitely has more top end power. Once I went to 4.88 and 285/70/17 the mileage is the same between stock tune and KDmax. I have actually been switching between the tunes to figure out what I like now. I don't need the power and the stock tune is sightly more refined after the gear change. Shifting is way better on the KDmax with stock gearing

    I love my Taco, but having to drive 50 miles a day on freeway an city had me with buyers remorse. That all changed after I tried out several tunes at the beginning of this year and settled on KDMax. Each one of tunes was a HUGE improvement over stock, but KDMax felt the most refined. I prefer light tip in (aka throttle response), but the overall performance is night and day from fuel scheduling to shifting performance, the truck drives like it should and best part was I didn’t notice a major change in mpg. I have gone from planning to sell my Taco in a year or two to now keeping it forever (or at least until the frame rusts away).

    If you drive primarily in rural areas below 45 mph on a daily basis, a tune may not be a big deal, but many of us it is the most important mod for these trucks.

    You are a sweet heartttt. Thank you for providing the quick info and contacts. I’m in H town, so i’m basically in-between all areas. Been wanting to check out Waco Texas, so that may be my go to place.

    San antonio creeps me out since I did basic training there a long time ago hahaha

    My wife's grandson finished BMT at JBSA this past spring (was there for the Texas freeze out lol), then got to stay there for SF tech school. When he was done they sent him to Minot, ND, where he is currently freezing his ass off. I think he would gladly go back to San Antonio at this point LOL

    KDMax Pro tune is well worth it for the drivability factor alone.

    Get the KDMAX pro tune. You will not regret it. I was once skeptical. Now, I believe!

    I guess if you have one of those tacoma's that are a pooch, a tune will help. Some just run far better than others.

    My used 2020 has driven great from the get-go. I am now curious if it may have already had a tune by the previous owner, because my 2018 had the trans shifting issue and was driving me crazy. Maybe I just got lucky with the 2020, but had I decided to live with the 2018, I would have put a tune on it.

    Before you spend your money, get the latest TSB for your transmission. I got it and it fixed a lot of the problems.
