Drove 2014 TRD Off-ROAD 4x4 for approximately 9 years (120k) and liked it (sold it thru this forum).
Bought 2023 Tacoma 4 cly 2wd 9 months ago ( old man’s truck) although runs just fine between TEXAS and FLORIDA and around town in both i really miss the 6cly and 4x4 (that is VERY seldom used) and stuff the TRD had.
Contacted dealership i worked past 46 years and found out only one allocation remains for 2023 (not interested in new 2024 Taco). This really lowers chances of TRD OFF-ROAD PREMIUM.
I’ve been retired past 10 years
My question is will the Limited ride any better? Not worried about 4x4 as 99% road and no real trail driving. But want 4x4.

Will the limited ride better than an OR? No.

The OR Bilstein suspension rides a bit smoother on road, as it is “tuned” to handle off the pavement.

But that difference is fairly minimal. The Limited rides well. And you can always swap out shocks if you ever decide to.

If the Limited 4x4 is the final 2023 you can find, I would not hesitate to purchase it.

I went Limited. Wanted an OR, but pandemic pickings were thin and the Limited made sense. Would do it again.

The Limited has the largest wheel diameter of all Tacoma models, so it has the lowest profile tires and will not be as smooth as an Off Road.

    “Better” is subjective
I believe the Limited has firmer shocks, but some love that and can’t stand the soft OR ride. V6 will be a definite improvement,,, nothing against the I4, it’s a workhorse and gets it done for many, and that’s cool too.

Have you checked with more than one dealer? Here is an example of Off Roads available around Texas.

aftermarket suspension is pretty easy to install, and you have loads of choices. Only reason to get a limited is if you like chrome.

I doubt you will tell much of a difference between the limited and your SR you have now as far as ride quality. Big difference between OR Prem and Limited is going to be the rear end, crawl control, and tire size. If you drive a lot, 18" tires are more costly than 16". If you don't off-road very often at all (which you said you don't), you will be very happy with the limited.

I went from a 2019 DCSB TRD OR 4WD Premium to a 2022 DCSB Limited 4WD and feel like the Limited rides better than the TRD OR. Who knows if it really does but it was smooth as silk until I lifted it (and added larger wheels, tires, etc.), although the ride is still pretty smooth. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

I wasn't in the market for a Limited when I bought mine but it was the only allocation I could get at the time (I wanted a Pro but couldn't get an allocation anywhere for at least six months). My 2019 was Super White and showing signs the paint was about to start peeling on the window sills and I wanted no part of that so I traded as quick as I could and got the black Limited. I'm not a hard core off-roader so I've never been in a situation where I needed a rear locker. I really like all of the creature comforts of the Limited.

    Thanks guys for the thoughts.
New 2023 LIMITED 4wd in magnetic gray, black leather, with nightshade and power tailgate lock due in SEPT 6th.
It will have the TOYOTA bed cover but my trade has a new UnderCover Elite so they will take TOYOTA cover off and install my UnderCover Elite. Luckily it is black and should really look good with the nightshade wheels. GST 100% puts TOYOTAS bed covers on LIMITEDS.
I installed a LOCKERDOWN console safe that i will pull and install in the LIMITED.
    I’m ready for the 6th!

Nothing will be smoother on road than an Off Road or a Pro because of shocks. They may corner better but ride quality comes from high sidewall tires and soft shocks.

Thank you. It will do the I-10 TX-FL run a lot with the occasional mountain passes.
What color? Was wanting white but that didn’t fly long. Ended up with
Magnetic Gray. Thinking with NIGHTSHADE the black pebbled UNDERCOVER will match well.

MGM looks really good when it's new and clean. Limited, with the nightshade, that will be a good looking, LUXURY truck. Congrats.

I think you made a great choice! I have a black 2016 Limited and love it. The ride is very good, city or highway it's very comfortable. I'm 61 with a bad back, can make long trips with no problem. I've got the seat jackers that I haven't installed yet, hopefully in the next week or so.

Mine's magnetic gray also. I painted the chrome Toyota wheel centers black.
    20210630.jpg

I traded some stuff for a friends take-off TRD skid plate. Put it on just for looks, not expecting to actually need it. While out of town on an interstate, a piece of brake drum fell off a trash truck and I couldn't avoid it. The skid plate took a nice gash but the truck didn't get a scratch.

(Picture is pre skid plate damage)
    Added some nice upgrades:
NFab step rails, sequential mirror turn signal lights, OEM bed mat, Spiker hood struts, glove box organizer, console tray, smoked vent shades, OEM folding bed step, etc.
