Lost my key, had a new one made. Chip programed by lock smith. Works great. But now the theft deterrent light on the dash keeps blinking even when the truck is running. Anyone know how to reset this thing? Thanks.

What year is your truck? I've never heard of this issue before. If you truck is still under warranty I'd call the dealer cause I'm sure they can fix it.

truck is a 2007, was hoping to avoid dealership. I would have to take off from work to do that and when I called them, they acted pretty surprised. So I suspect it will be a fat load of diagnostics. Not under warranty anymore.

My suggestion is that the immobilizer portion of the vehicle is acting up. Is it keeping your car from starting?

You got the key programmed at an independent locksmith rather than the dealer? Surprised that would work (kinda defeats the purpose...).

Car is running great. No problems. Just want the blinking light to go away when I am driving.

Interesting.... I'm surprised its not causing starting issues.

My suggestion. Do the tape mod? :D

Haha in all seriously, you might have to make a run to the dealer, try disconnecting your battery and touching the positive and negative terminals for 10 seconds. Then try reconnecting it all back up and see if that makes a difference before you let the stealer take your $$

Put a piece of black electrical tape on it. Problem solved.

I will try the battery disconnect thing. I guess it can't hurt. Hate going to the dealer for something so trivial.

I would contact the locksmith. It sounds to me like the key was not properly programmed.

For anyone else with this problem. Got a suggestiong that worked. Take the key, put it in the ignition, turn it clockwise for two clicks. Repeat 10 times quickly. Resets the theft deterrent. Problem solved.

Thanks for the post Robinshen. I have a 07 Tacoma and recently programmed a new key using a $12 programmer tool from ebay and also added another remote. Truck, keys and remote worked fine but immobilizer light stayed on when truck was off and flashed when driving, cycling the key on and off quickly per your post seems to have fixed it. Thanks.

Great Fix! Thank you. My 2010 Tacoma was blinking for 2 days with the truck off & on. Craziness. The 10 times on and off procedure works. Thanks again.

Are we talking the Immobilizer light?
I want to get some spare keys made, will I need to do this for each chipped key?
