Has anyone ever traveled the Trans American trail with a stock Tacoma?

Would anyone be interested in trying in about a year?

A 5000 mile trek across the US depending on what trails you take. It was made for motorcycles but you can complete 95% of it with a 4x4.

I don't think a stock Tacoma could do it. Even guys who do it on built up dirt bikes have issues.

either by two wheels or four... I really wanna do this.
one of these days I might lay out the 300 bucks for the set of maps etc

we thought about it last year before we drove from the east coast to the west and back. but time and funding was a limiting factor and 300 towards gas and our old trusty rand mcnally was seemingly a more reasonable option at the time.

I recall meeting two women doing this on their hybrid style dirt bikes (not sure what that's called). They were doing one of the trails we were driving over in Colorado dumping down to 550 in the San Juan mountains. Sounded cool to me but you'd need a lot of vacation days for it!

I did this trip in 2013 on an XR650R. Given the trail changes from year to year as public land/private access changes, I'm fairly certain it could be completed in just about any 4x4 with reasonable ground clearance, and a competent driver. Main concerns for me would be tire punctures, 300miles of fuel range, and some sort of PLB. Nothing about it was super technical, moreso just endurance.

We ended up doing the TAT, then running down the length of Baja, hopping a ferry to the mainland and running a couple thousand more miles through Mexico. Best trip I've ever done!

Sounds like a fun time. The gf would be white knuckling it though. Especially when, "anyone can go the easy way..."and I don't. Lol

    My wallet is empty
I did part of it on my GS a couple years ago. The eastern section is not too technical. Methinks it would get dicey for anything larger than a 450 out west. Can't imagine doing it in a Taco. Might be worth a try tho'

16 Tacoma DCSB, icon stage 6, OME Dakar heavy duty rear leafs, ARB front w/ 12k smitty winch, more on the way as always.
What's up guys, I am doing the TAT in the summer of 2020, starting around august on the Atlantic spur, going across to Oregon then up into Canada, east in Canada then south back to the US. I am transitioning out of the Navy so I am taking the time in between jobs to do the trail. im not asking for information, I have my rig set up and I don't want to know too much because its all an adventure. If anyone out there is interested in joining in the adventure the dogs & I would appreciate the company!

Have done parts of TAT in the midwest (TN, MS, AR) in my Tacoma, nothing super technical, no endurance required, the parts I did could be done in a Subaru. Lots of secondary unpaved roads. Lots of fun. Slow. Worth doing if it's a "bucket list" item. (IMO - parts that I did).....Hard core off roaders will likely become bored, overlanders will likely enjoy the journey. Fuel and lodging were readily available on and off the trail.

    minor tweaks
Black Dragon Wash and the surrounding areas in the San Rafael Swell UT is probably the most technical section. I've been through it when a Taco with a set of decent tires wouldn't have a problem, other times it's been much more difficult, trail conditions change out there depending recent weather.
