Multiple post about axle replacement and paint issues in fb group. Might want to check out this for sale group also. Sometimes interesting stuff comes up.

First weekend in the books this year. Learnt real quick there are no vents in the RTT so if anyone has some pointers for helping with condensation, please let me know.
There is a slim foam/net under the mattress but that's it.

We camped a few weeks ago in our iKamper, low 40's at night, we left our windows open at least half way each night at well as top window open with a pool noodle shoved in the rainfly for ventilation, no condensation. We also have carpeted the floor.

Check this out from their instruction manual:

It looks like the crossbars need to be at a minimum of 22” apart from each other for the Mini to be centered on. Keep that spacing in mind when positioning the front and rear crossbars along the bed rails. The bedrack I use (approx 150lbs) has the two sets of legs positioned about 29” apart from each other, front to back. The rtt currently on that is a Roofnest Condor Overland (weighs approx 165lbs) with a similar footprint to the IKamper SkyCamp Mini (weighs approx 123lbs). I thought the 29” spread was too narrow with my setup, but it seems like this iKamper rtt can be mounted on a narrower spread than that and still be considered safe.

Hopefully, you get enough distance away from the back of the cab with the front crossbar so that any window awning rods of the rtt can clear the back of the cab (e.g. the roofline) if the rtt is positioned to open to the passenger’s or driver’s side and the rear crossbar can still allow for the rear most panel of the trifold to still open up a bit.

So I got a great deal on a CVT Shasta Hybrid tent at the end of last year. They were selling these for 70% off because of some manufacturing defects, so I snagged for one about $900. After it was delivered, I took all of the bolts out, sealed every opening into the tent, and reassembled everything. CVT also threw in an extra cover for when the tent's not in use, an annex, and I get to reuse the four 8020 cross bars for another project.

    IMG-6027.jpg

I'm happy with the deal, but have major tent envy every time I pull into camp and my buddy sets up his GFC in 30 seconds and then laughs at me over a cocktail while I'm walking circles around the truck getting my tent set-up. Not to mention it's heavy enough that I'm not really taking the tent on and off, so I'm just taking the hit on gas.

I'm starting to look at other tents, particularly the Inspired Overland wedge RTT. I love it's light weight, slim profile, and quick set-up. Price seems right, and the tonneau material top seems more durable than the fabric I've seen on other lightweight wedge RTTs, like GFC's Superlite and Badass Tent's Packout. Anyone have any experience/feedback with any of these RTTs mentioned?

They claim shipping is to blame for delay but no excuse as to why no update. I talked with Talon on insta and he said the same to me.
I'm pretty salty over it and going to be hot if it's not here for my big trip over the 4th of July.
It seems standard for companies to still be using the covid delays and consumers just except it.
    Very frustrating

no experience with those tents but kind of feel the same way as you regarding tent envy.

i have a tepui kukeman i got for like $1k and its worlds better than any ground tent. i got it as they were being acquired by thule so the older ones were a bit cheaper.

the wedge style looks cool but think i might move to an ikamper mini at some point. you could probably say the ikamper is faster since the ladder is integrated. the gfc you would need to add it or have a ladder permanently mounted or climb through the bed.

i used to think i wanted the full gfc/topo/lone peak whatever. but dont think the pass through would be worth it. maybe on the lone peak since the price is so low right now. but i want to store a ton of stuff in the bed and dont want to deal with climbing over boxes and bags and bikes back there.

Just a bunch of old crap
Your doors/windows. Those are your vents. If you zip up completely at night, just your breath expels enough moisture from your lungs to condense considerably inside the tent. You don't realize how much moisture you breathe out overnight until you seal yourself up in a tent and don't ventilate. Give yourself some air!

I'm with you on the pass through not being worth it. On trips I keep everything in the bed, it's valuable space. And I always wanted a RTT to be removable, not integrated like GFC/Topo/Lone Peak, so I can still use the roof rack as a roof rack. The iKampers look nice, but I'm pretty sold on a wedge-style RTT- I don't think anything sets up or breaks down faster. The problem is every wedge RTT is $3k+. Oh well.

those inspired overland ones are like $1500. there was a sale a few months ago and they were going for $1000. im sure you can find something around the 1k price and just sell your tent to fund it. thats my plan at least

Same here, I only just found about them after that sale :D
I'll be keeping my eye out, I figure there's always Black Friday if nothing comes up before then.

Just my opinion BUT I don't mind that my tent takes a while to set up/take down. When I'm camping, IDGAF about time, that's why I'm out there. We're so caught up in what's the best, fastest, biggest, I think we lose why we're out there in the first place, to slow down and relax and take in nature.

That's generally how I feel, but we were camping in Trona one night when the wind was ripping- gusts like 40 mph. Let's just say set-up was challenging.

I get it. I was pretty envious of my buddy and his iCamper when we got snowed on overnight and I was beating the ice off my tent for 20 minutes before I could fold it up

I can imagine. I called Inspired Overland, sounds like that $999 sale is never going to happen again, it was for their grand opening. But $1299 for local pickup (only 2 hours from me) isn't bad at all.

this is the biggest thing to me. trying to zip the cover on mine in cold/snowy conditions was not fun or easy. the zipper isn't bad with my bed rack since i can still stand on the sides of the bed, but am moving to a shell this summer.

and getting to camp at like 10 or 11 pm and just wanting to get to sleep happens a lot. heading out after work on a friday and i dont get to a good camp spot until late.

if i camped in ideal conditions all the time that would be a different story

Was in your same boat.. I went with an ikamper 3.0 mini.. weighs 123lbs and I never plan on taking it off.. granted wedges are nice because of how slim they are but I love the set up is close to 25 seconds ladder is stored inside.. I was happy to let my cvt hybrid go
