Qomotop repeatedly comes up in the ikamper forums as a cheap exped alternative.

Ditto on the exped. Not only awesome in the tent, but my wife used it while she was pregnant, so you know it's good.

Wife and I use a latex mattress topper on top of the CVT RTT mattress and it works great. Supposedly doesn’t get hard in the cold like a memory foam topper does and it’s more comfy than an exped which we also own.

Take a look at the Stoic Double Cloud. I freaking luv it, and you can get it for a grate price point.

Not sure what my future plans are but letting my roofnest Sparrow XL go right now. Asking $2,500. That’s $1,000 off new and it comes with everything you would get.

I thought I’ve seen some FS on here but if it that’s against the rules I’ll delete post.

I used it maybe 10 times.

If I buy a POS tent from Alibaba.com for $700, assuming I can find one, what are chances I’ll fall out the sky and snap my neck? Also will occasionally have 1 GF & 2 medium size dogs.

I just can’t afford/ not willing to pay for these name brand RTTs.

I've had an Alibaba RTT since ~2015. No complaints. When the cover wore out from 5+ years in the sun, I swapped it out for a tepui cover. I didn't like the sliding later it has so I swapped it out with a CVT telescoping ladder last year. It does need a rehab of the waterproofing, but with light rain it still holds up fine. Long periods of rain start to soak through. The floor isn't super thick, so if you're gonna have two people and dogs up there, I'd recommend 3 crossbars when mounting it. The standard soft side RTTs flap a lot in the wind, so get some little spring loaded clamps and clip them around the perimeter of the rain fly if it's windy.

Check out this one. I had it on my Land Cruiser and am now testing one of their upcoming tents. The cover could be better, but the tent itself was great!

New to tacomas and the group but I’m glad I didn’t pay 3-4k for a rtt that I’ve used a few times since buying it. It’s a non branded tent for short people that I added a 3” topper for the matress.

Sets up super fast. It definitely has its quality issues but it was a cheap Craigslist find and works. If you are tall like over 6’ I’d make sure it’s longer than 75” if you find a wedge style. I wanted a hard shell since I wanted and needed a roof rack for the original vehicle I had it on.

Got to use my RTT (CVT Mt Hood) for work!

I work for the state environment department and spent the last three weeks doing wetland surveys in northern New Mexico. Got to take my personal vehicle since we were camping 4-5 nights a week. It rained 13 of the 16 days we were out. CVT Mt hood roof top tent did great. The OVS 270 awning was key. Everyone hung out under it most nights. Got to see some beautiful places and even some local wildlife.

Funny thing is we drive through this traffic jam of ~200 bison and I now realize there was a herd of elk on the hill above.

Found this guy used for a great price. First time owning one. Definitely going to remove the shell. It’s too tall with a mid rise and bars.

So far so good with the Roofnest Condor Overland on the custom FRO Slimline II bedrack mounted to the DB HD cover. The Condor Overland is about 165lbs and the previous rtt setup was with the Tepui Ayer II that was about 94lbs. Current rtt setup still feels solid on the Diamondback cover. The Tepui was on the Diamondback/FRO setup for about 3.5yrs (July 2018 to around December 2021) with no major accidents or issues. The Roofnest has been on there for about 8.5mos with no major accidents or issues. Because the Condor Overland is heavier and shorter than the Ayer II, I added two more extra tent mount brackets (6total) to hold the extra weight better and was able to switch out to the taller approximately 8” tall legs (from the 6” tall legs) for the bedrack.

Any tips on how to fix this or what that plastic piece is called so I can order one?

    Yeah.
I wouldn't count on that being a part you can find and replace easily without replacing the entire thing, but I could certainly be wrong. I'd try a hose clamp around it, maybe put some epoxy on it first and then clamp it down.

Thought I'd post this Wildernest I picked up a while back. Great solution for the summer, but won't be in my best interest to sleep in it come ski season...

What is the photo of? From the looks it seems clamping it and epoxy. If it’s a roof top ladder they get pricey to replace

It’s the ladder. I’ll try the epoxy and clamp route.
