I also had some bad luck with the morimoto ballasts... went through 4 sets and ended up exchanging mine via warranty claim for a set of the Hylux ballasts. These are what most of TRS employees run on their vehicles.

I tried these and had the same issues as listed above with the ballasts. Turned into so much of a PITA that I reverted back to stock housings and just ordered brighter bulbs. Never looked back. I was having an issue where the drivers side would just cut out. Completely. While I was driving at night. Then the ballast would cool off or reset or think through its life issues and decide to work again. When I got pulled over for a headlight out, that's what made me revert back.

@crashnburn80 has a great thread with a TON of good info...

Welp, still haven't heard back since the initial communication, this is pretty disappointing and probably won't order from them again.

On the other hand Headstrong Offroad has amazing customer service.

Isn't there a The Retro Fit Sourse rep on the board?

Thought i would chime in since i installed my kit today and i had to switch back to stock lights. Driver side ballast was not lighting and throwing sparks when i tried to move it.

I wish this thread existed before I ordered a set on Black Friday. My passenger side intermittently doesn’t work, and the relay harness to the h11 adapter harness will cause the lights to shut off if you move it at all. Definitely disappointed with this kit. I will probably go back to my halogens after this.

Those with intermittent light, go back and unplug all connections and replug them. Seems dumb but I’m a long time TRS customer and have had elite kits in all my vehicles and the Tacoma was giving me the most issues after install but after completely taking my kit apart and then making sure each connection was secure, I’ve been trouble free for about 6 months. Also, I’ve got spare 35w and 55w computers as backups but never had to use them. Way back when I was a DDM fan, but if you think TRS is bad, DDM is horrendous

HID sucks. It is the equal to a home florescent bulbs setup except for vehicles.

Sorry to hear about your troubles OP. Hopefully this will lead you down a different path like it has for me after running multiple HID setups on my own vehicles.

I bought a set earlier this year and had issues with one of the ballast. When I emailed them they were pretty quick with response and sending out the replacement. Ralph was my correspondent. This went on for over a few months because the ballast would work for a while and not. Ever time I emailed Ralph he get back to me within 24 hours.

It hasn’t been a year yet but so far it’s all holding up just fine. However, I have noticed the bulbs has dim quite a lot.

Just ordered an H11 Philips HID kit from Xenon Depot (sounds like it's now TRS) this past weekend before reading this. Fingers crossed...

yep thats where mine is.... so i doubt thats the issue. im at a loss besides harness failure because all elements fail when i put them on the Driver side. Ive ordered a second HD Relay harness, extra ballast and bulbs.... so basically a new kit. so that should arrive soon. As far as best quality? they can shove that statement up their ass.

I'm sorry to hear of the issues. The new ballasts are made specifically for Morimoto by Hylux, which is renowned as the best of the aftermarket for building ballasts and igniters, but they too are not immune to some failures.

I have a priority team member looking into this for you further to ensure you're taken care of promptly.

We currently have 21 members in our Customer Service department and are actively seeking more.

Again my apologies for the troubles and issues with a faster resolution.

Actually most of us either run complete Morimoto headlights or Morimoto HID components, not standard Hylux ballasts.

How long does it take to get a reply back from your warranty department? It took 3 times just to get a ticket open, and then they go dark and not responsive.

Whoops! Generally just a few days for a response, but calling in or live chat will be faster than email too.

So whats the point of having a ticketing system? The 2nd time i reached out to chat I was told they couldn't do anything and to just wait for a response to my initial email...that still hasn't come. The 3rd chat session finally got a warranty claim open and then the rep basically fell off the face of the earth and hasn't responded since Thursday. Pretty shitty service when things like headlights and marker lights on a vehicle are concerned....During that time the other bulb failed so I had to go out and spend more money to replace something that's under warranty, because I highly doubt TRS is going to pay for a fix it ticket.
