So here's the scoop. I purchased my truck and it came with the JBL package. I looked for one without because I knew I was going to gut it of the factory speakers and came up with nothing so here I am.

2016 TRD Sport DCSB. JBL with Entune package. I've been following everyone else's 2016 stereo builds here but apparently I'm the first on here with the JBL package? So kinda treading into unchartered waters...that is until @Mr Marv came along and solved probably the most complicated part of this whole setup.

I was going to follow everyone else and make a new metra harness from the factory HU to a 'summing device' aka my Audio Control LC6i. That isn't the case with the JBL package which has a factory amp next to the factory sub behind the rear seats.

    The build:
Keep the factory HU for essentially the same reasons everyone has already stated: 'simplicity' (hah!) and integration. All speakers will be upgraded. A sub and enclosure will be added with an amp to power all. A Line-Out-Convertor in place to put the sound back in the music that the factory amp takes away.

    The parts:
JBL GTO 609c 6.5" components for front doors.
JBL GTO 628 6.5" 2-way for rear doors.
    Audio Control LC6i
    Kicker 16g speaker wire
    Mr Marv speaker adapters
    ArcAudio xdi 850.5 amp
    Amp wiring kit
    JL audio sub
    Me Marv sub enclosure
    RAAMaudio BXT ii sound deadener

Good to see you started a thread. Install looks like it is going well. I take it you figured out the wire colors for those tweeters. Can't wait to see it all done.

Haha yeah. There is no wiring diagram to help that I've found or heard of, basically had a 50/50 chance of it working. Your advice about the stock speaker clips and the hot wire was helpful and ended up being correct. I will make a note of that on here also.

Did you have to use an aftermarket wiring kit for the speakers since you went with JBL?
Got links for the components you used? You know, because Google is hard. :annoyed:

Just look the models name up on Amazon man. It's not that hard. You could have done it in the time it took you to write that post. Took me 2 minutes to find you the links on amazon and write this.

I was bumping his thread more than anything. Notice the sarcasm at the end? I'm not that lazy but I know other people are.

As @1sttruckguy78 mentioned, I went on Amazon for the speakers and actually a majority of my parts. Helps to have prime also :)
I did not need a speaker harness like other guys have used (Metra harness + stinger speed wire). I just clipped the wires off the old speakers then used butt connectors to 16ga speaker wire then soldered and heat shrinked the wire to the new speakers

You are still not going to be happy with the sound that the stock HU is capable of pushing. There are ways around it, but the methods end up being just as expensive if not more than just replacing the headunit as a whole if you want quality sound. Not only that. The stock speaker amp is very limited to it's capabilities as well. SEVERELY. You basically have 8 ohms being driven to the speakers when the ones you are currently running are 4 ohms. They will work, but they will not last the test of time, especially if you like to play your music loud.

My advice? If you want to save yourself space and avoid making custom enclosures get yourself a compact amp and your choice of headunit, rewire as necessary and call it a day. Stock JBL headunits and amplifiers suck on these trucks. Shame too, because the headunits are graphically pleasing GUI interface friendly for the most part and nothing beats OEM wire cleanliness at the rear of the stereo. Plus, they have everything in them that a modern day stereo could really want.

I'm telling you, you will be walking into the wolves den if you decide to keep the OE amp and headunit.

If you would like I could see if there are wiring schematics available for 2016's and post it if you need them. I have access to all of that stuff.
