I live in Windsor, Canada, across the river from Detroit. For a new car that is less than 3 years old, I am really disappointed with this situation.I asked the 4S store and they said it was normal. But the old Corolla I drove before was more than 10 years old and the chassis was very new. What should I do now? Thanks!

Sadly, thats pretty normal for your climate. Road salt and brine is terrible for cars. Ride it out till the flanges start to leak then replace the whole exhaust with nice stainless aftermarket stuff

Pretty normal for where I'm in New England. Splashing around in the winter salt brine kills all undercarriages and exhausts. Most aren't stainless steel.

Thank you ! Is there any fix for this situation? At least it can extend the life of the exhaust pipe

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
I make sure to spray down the underside of my truck at least weekly in the winter months to get as much salt off as soon as possible.

Yup! Water and heat will do that. Go stainless if you're worried about it. And I've seen cheezy (ebay) stainless go south too. Keep that in mind.

3 years in winter road salt without any undercoating (?)

I'd say you got lucky, looks better than it should.

Rust is the Achilles heel of Toyotas.

I'm in Arizona and mine was pretty rusty too. I used a wire brush with rust remover to get rid of the rust, sprayed it with CRC rust inhibitor after.
Mine is a 2021, pretty sure is not coated at all from the factory

Do nothing. Can't really spray any rust preventative like Cosmoline or Fluid Film on it because it's right next to the cat and gets really hot. The exhaust pipes are stainless steel, but that corrosion resistance goes away near welds.

9 years from now when the flanges rot to the point of leaking, cut away the flanges completely and throw an exhaust clamp like this on there:

Spray it off after driving on the salted road will help a little.

This is a good way , without removing the rusty screws.

Any uncoated carbon steel surface will rust.
I’d be more worried about keeping the rest of it coated and protected, a rusty exhaust joint like that will last a long time, but may not earn you any points at the local car show.

Looks like mine and my wife's old Rav4 in Massachusetts. FWIW, both systems lasted 14 years.

Your exhaust system is stainless (probably 409), but the flanges are not.
You can replace them with ss flanges from Summit or even Amazon and have a shop weld them on or just use a clamp as mentioned earlier.
