I would like to discuss the evolution of Country music. This is thread will mostly be opinion based so if you are sensitive read elsewhere.

The term "wanna be country"came up in another thread in reference to artist like Luke Bryan, and Florida Georgia line.

    Catering to the listeners.

That group changed from men forged from iron to country themed whores and dudes in sandals.

I don't completely agree with this, I also dis agree either. I'm old enough to remeber when Garth brooks was new and people said the same about him. Now he is a legend.

There is definitely a trend going in top 40 Country that is geared toward someone other than me, but to say they aren't country I do not believe is fair.

Legends are rarely called that in the new wave of change.

Garth is an excellent showman with a history of great music. So is Tim McGraw.

Both, depending on the song, are either legendary or they're Luke Bryan impersonators.

The listenership has changed drastically and the songs and style reflect that. The singers have changed just as much. Taylor Swift as an example.

Rowdy Yates plays real country on Saturday nights. Modern country =tractor rap. Rap=crap, therefore tractor rap = tractor crap.

This is modern and new, and is not on the same level as what that stuff is.

Traditional voice on this guy, also. Haven't heard anything else by him, but if this reflects his style of song and of singing, there's hope yet.

I call it "cookie cutter country"....which is really more like pop these days. It seemingly stopped being about the music long ago and is more about marketability and selling an "image" that today's young people "identify" with. In my PERSONAL opinion...it's crap...but hey...whatever blows folks' hair back. I listen to "old" country and "Texas country". The majority of the stuff on the radio (mainsteam) these days just turns my stomach. :)

I like to refer to this new brand of country as "musical junk food" because it is easily palatable. It's definitely not Hank, or David Alan Coe. But I think it is still needed influx of new ideas and talent.

One of my favorite (but rather obscure) artists today is "Jake Hooker & The Outsiders". He's modern/current, but plays the old "honky tonk" stuff. He plays a 7ft standup bass AND is the lead singer. Youtube him.....pretty good stuff if you like the "old" stuff.

I love classic Coe, but in the same sentence as Hank, no way.

Once he went batshit, Coe hasn't done anything - he's a has been. Hank is legendary.

Saw Coe in concert about 8 years ago and it was awesome, but only because it's Coe. He sat on a stool the whole time looking like he was going to die any minute, and his racial rants and songs are a sad glimpse into what he became after the fame he experienced in his prime. Once he faded from that, he faded altogether.

The last time I saw Coe was in the early 2000s in Corpus Christi. He came out w/ his hair in dreadlocks and started rapping "I'm the real slim shady"....I sat my beer down and walked out. Haven't bothered to try to see him since.

I still blast his greatest hits album, and look at his pics from the original album covers. You can actually see his transitioning into hard living by his album covers. He ages about 30 years!

Racist fucktard he is. I think any thing I have of his stops somewhere in the early 80's. I think his song writing credits alone should put him in the legend category.
