Like some of you, my instrument cluster keeps failing. My third one is going in soon, and toyota keeps giving me a run around so I opened a case with corporate.
    '17, 2.7 manual 4x4.

Any of you all who have had multiple new combo meters installed, what was the outcome? Did they finally get a new supplier for the part? or did it end up being another issue?

And yes, ive searched and found some things, but im mostly interested in current.

I mean, if you're getting a third one you might qualify for lemon law

This is the first meter failure I have heard about. What is going on with your meter?

it has the "clock/ticking" motion, gets stuck, so forth.
Lemon law wont work in this case unfortunately ( i was hoping), In MD- dealer has 3 "attemps" at major repairs that make the vehicle unsafe to drive before 18k or 2 years. Ive only had two so far, and im at 18200 miles.

I hear of alot of SR 2.7 guys having the same issue, but not much on how it ever got resolved.

I've read most posts here in the past year and this is the second case I have heard about. Good luck.

Is it under 18K miles total, or under 18K miles when first reported?

under 18,000 total. so basically they got 3 shots to get it right before then. if they cant, they have to do a buy back including taxes/tags/ all of it. This is what my lawyer buddy said.
Either way, that wont be happening in my case, im over 18 haha.
For me, I just want to know whats causing it.

I've seen a few instances of this on here, but have never had an issue with mine (knock on wood) in the 24k miles I've put on.

Had mine replaced at about 10K and haven't had an issue again since, and hopefully won't again, have 30k on the truck now

I don't think all things qualify for lemon law. Dome light for example.

Mine does the same "clock/ticking" thing. Haven't even went to the dealer about it yet since I have heard others were still experiencing the "ticking" on the new replaced meters. Not sure what I will do about it but I will let the dealer know before the warranty runs out.

I'd let them know sooner than later so your covered.

yup, your exactly right. So in this particular case- if they did hit the "3 attempts" then found it to be a problem with the wiring, it would be considered an electrical issue, and it would qualify since it would make the truck unsafe to operate. But- if they find they are just faulty meters that are just poorly manufactured- I'd be SOL on a lemon law claim.

Is a combo meter failure from ticking "unsafe" to operate ?
    It's not an easy task.

by itself no, but if they were failing because of bad wiring then yes.

So how is the wiring creating the safety issue ?
Wiring to the dome light is bad therefore lemon ?

bad wiring could cause multiple things, worst one catching fire.
    that is all worst case.
A dealership will do anything possible to avoid a lemon law case. thats why when you go down that road, you need a solid lawyer and have your documents in order.

im just hoping i got a shitty made combo meter and the next one does the trick.

You had the same exact symptom on all 3 ?
Data is sent via canbus data to cluster for odo/speedo. Could be canbus line or ecu issue, not cluster.
IMO its not the cluster after 3 attempts.

well, i will be on my third after this one, and same issue with both. For some people its the tac and the speedo, for me its just the speedo. I hope your right and its just a bad harness. then it should be a straight forward fix. Im dropping it off and they are going to start testing on it.
Last cluster they had my truck for 2 weeks to get the new mileage burned in it, so if its something else thats actually wrong then i might get it back faster this time, and- the fix will be documented.

Think of it as the ecu sends the data to the cluster. The data gets interrupted, so the cluster doesn't know what to do, so it holds til the next canbus data update. It could be the computer in the truck sending the data or the VSS speed sensors. Not necessarily the messenger reporting the data received (cluster). This stuff is involved in vehicles today.
