I'm new. I got a lot of info from here while I was researching the purchase of my Tacoma, made an account and read a lot. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the abbreviations that are commonly used, and read a lot of posts from others who have the same problem. I looked around and could not find a reference - so while I was slowly building my 'clout' to the point that I can post in more places, I started compiling abbreviations. It is by no means complete, these are the acronyms and abbreviations that I came across while reading. It is likely not accurate. But with the power of Cunningham's law, it will become accurate.

If this is helpful, I'll add to it and maintain it. If it isn't, it'll die of neglect and be lost - regardless, thanks for the help.

    • OE - Original Equipment. This is the stuff that came on the truck when the dealer first sold it - usually. Some dealer installed equipment might not be considered OE, but if it came from the factory, it is OE.
    • OEM - (quoted from Andy01DblCabTacoma ) "Original Equipment Manufacturer. In this case, Toyota. However, Toyota doesn't make every part. Many of the electrical components on the trucks are made by Denso, other parts are made by Asin. You can often buy an Asin part, and it will be the original Toyota casting with the logo removed. Interesting to note that, Toyota has stock in both Denso and Asin. Things on the trucks from the factory, like shocks, tires, and brake pads, could be supplied by 3rd party companies." (from thread)
IN THEORY, if you buy a Denso oil filter from Toyota, it should be considered an OE part. If you buy the same Denso filter from Napa or AutoZone it is an OEM part. If you buy a *Brand* filter from Napa or AutoZone, it _may_ be OEM Equivalent, depending on the quality of *Brand*.

I am new here. Thank you for compiling this list. I can see it being super helpful.

Just bought my first Tacoma a little over a month ago. I love it. Best decision I made.

At the risk of showing my ignorance, is it true that A-TRAC is MT only?

I am pretty sure that the Automatic Transmission ORs and PROs could run that option too.

I have an Auto 2015 OR Taco and the A-TRAC button is there.

THANK YOU for the update. While going over the various versions, I thought that A-TRAC was a manual only feature. a little googling after your brought it to my attention and I find a thread that shows it as across both transmissions. At some point I think I found a thread with a chart that had various different modes available for each transmission, but the thread linked above and the fact that your truck has the A-TRAC is good enough for me to remove that parenthetical comment.

    Additional information:
Perhaps this is a generational issue. I found the thread I recall looking at - in the Third Gen forum. It appears that for Third Gens, A-Trac is a MT only feature. At the end of the day, I guess it does not really matter for the Acronym/Abbreviation list.

There are so many TLA's (Three Letter Abbreviations) that I thought it might help to rule some out depending on your equipment.

With the ability to do so much with these Tacomas, it is greatly appreciated that folks have taken the time and documented so many things.

    Ah, the 3rd gens MT
    Thanks for that link.

I have been learning about the combination of VSC and LSD and A-TRAC lately.

There are some threads about the combinations of traction control and their uses in different situations. Completely read the million-page Owner's Manual that came with my truck, but it's still going to take me a bit more study to figure it all out.

I fell hard down this rabbit hole recently. It is not an easy read at first, but I have a spiffy new coffee grinder on order. I should understand it by the end of the week. (month?)

Happy to be here. I appreciate you and everyone out here on TacomaWorld to help us get the most out of our Tacomas. There's so much I'm learning about my truck from these TacomaWorld threads.

Thanks to you and others who have paved the way.

    I
don't know if it is a "thing".

I had the devil of a time when I first started here figuring out the TLA's, so I started putting them in a file.

Once i had enough 'clout' to post a new thread I added it in case it could be useful for someone else.
