EDIT: Video 1 (the short) 2 (the break) and 3 (the what broke) are now all linked below.

Only the short is available on YouTube right now but it looks to be a pretty minor off-roading situation. All four tires on compact snow and ice trying to climb a slight incline something in the front drive train seems to have gone.

    https://youtu.be/axGvsYCap7w

This is the same place they take most of their vehicles for first impressions of off-raod capability. I've never seen anything struggle on that step. Once again Toyota chose garbage tires for the TRD-OR which clearly hurts it here.

EDIT to include full break video now released:

Edit for the 3rd video, the follow up:

Yeah we have been discussing it in the main thread. These guys have been beating on that thing since they got it. Will be interesting to see what the problem is.

    @Jeff Lange
I'm sure it's already been covered, but do you know if the 4th gen has the same front diff?

Well not the trucks fault … the Goodyear stock tires are not snow rated ..

I believe the tires are not Goodyear but BFG Trail Terrains? Those are snow rated and while not as aggressive as BFG KO2s, I’ve had both on my Tacoma and the snow performance is adequate. Nothing but studded snow tires works very well on frozen ground in my experience.

They are BFG Trail Terrains, you may have been happy with them but they aren't very good. The Chevy in the Goodyear's (Territory MT) was past that obstacle. TFL runs this route in the snow and ice constantly and I've never seen any of the vehicles have an issue in that spot.

So not trying to stir pot, but take a look at these videos. Any thoughts on if damage could have been caused?

At 4:30 mark he mentions that he is going to go into 4H and performs a drag race. Now the ground is a little damp and they said it was icy, but was it safe to run in 4H? Wonder if they turned around in 4H?

At 6 min mark they have some fun. Wondering if he could have it a hole or something and messed anything up.

Be funny if Toyota Corp. watches TFL videos and denies their warranty.

If it were you or I they would deny. For them they will repair. Too much media attention if they don't.

I would think as long as they are going in a straight line it should be fine. Also I believe 60 mph is the top speed limit while in 4hi? So unless they went over that or made sharp turns it shouldn't be an issue.

Just going off the short clip, that Tacoma should have been able to take whats was thrown at it. Not defending TFL or shitting on the 4th gen, sometimes things just don't work out as you think they should.

Could have been a factory defect. Or damaged in previous shenanigans.

I look forward to hearing root cause.

There is another short clip going around of one that makes a similar sound. Sounds like the TC popping out of 4whatever.

Buddies Ranger 4x4 did the same thing 1 time, took us 1/2day to get back on the road from the field in snow, pulled the actuator gave it a shake and all was good.
