These just started arriving at the local dealership and they left a DC 2024 Tacoma open on the lot. Had to see how the kids fit, just in case I decide to downside back to a Tacoma from my F150.

Front seat room is about the same, if anything a bit better and I like the seating position, but the rear seats seem like they’re smaller.

Is that with the front seats all the way back? My 3rd gen was an access cab but my 2nd gen double cab had way more backseat room with the seats at normal positions. Enough for adults to seat comfortably for reasonable length drives which looks impossible in that 4th gen.

Just leave the plastic on the seats and tell the kids not to grow and I think you'll be fine.

Yea the rear leg room on the 4th gens seems to really be lacking compared to the 3rd gen. I never haul any passengers so that isn't a big deal for me, but someone with kids will not want to routinely put them back there IMO.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
It would probably be fine for short trips but longer or overnight, it would get tiring. Our second is an SUV for longer trips; don't have to worry about logistics of keeping bags dry. Both of mine still enjoy riding in the 3rd gen. I'm sure they would care about the 4th gen legspace until they become whiny teenagers. But then they'll complain about everything.

For the record. The 4th gen has 1” more legroom in the rear than the 3rd gen. No eyeballing. No debating where the seats are positioned. No the door looks smaller. Actual measurements.

The rear door on the new Tacomas is 1 in shorter than the 3G. Automakers won't give you gobs of rear seat room on mid-size pickups or they risk people overlooking a more expensive/profitable full size truck. They see too much overlap in their portfolio as a poential bad thing.

This is why I'm getting a tundra. I have two boys now, not enough room back there. One day I'll probably go back to a Tacoma and maybe get a second one for the boys as well.

In Oregon there are up to $9,500 off MSRP listed on Tundra windows.

There's no comparison to the back seat leg room on the F150. The F150 is like sitting on a couch going down the freeway.

Toyota should've just removed the rear seat entirely. It's not functional.

My 3rd Gen Access Cab looks like it has more leg than the picture in post #1. I don’t need lots of space in th back as only my Golden Retriever rides back there. If I do get a 4th Gen it better have a sliding rear window or that’s a deal breaker (see my signature picture to the left).

Some fullsize crew cabs, might have more interior space than the smallest 3 row sport or crossover utility.

Toyota should offer a rearseat delete option, they could sell more accessories that bolt in back there.

I find many people push their seat way too far back. I’m 6ft and sit in trucks driven by people way shorter than me and find reaching far for the pedals and sitting uncomfortable and being barely able to see over the hood line. I think the size of these trucks is adequate for most people and some people are making their own problems.

As a father of two young men who grew up riding in the back seat of my Gen 2 all over the US… who cares about their legroom? They’re kids, they adapt, they get used to it. It builds character. Buy the truck you want, they’ll fit in it.

Not the 2025 4Runner. It’s like the Tacoma.
