    Hi gang,
So I took a test drive today and learned a few things.
I drive a second gen "lowrider" as the salesman called it. My 05 sits low and I like how easy it is to get in and out of, as I make multiple stops a day, and loading my kayak into the bed is super easy too!
This new truck sits very high and I didn't care for the steps to get in. Any advice?
    I drive exact same model 4cyl with a 6' bed. Test drove the 4cyl and the V-6....yep, I'm gonna need a V-6!
Dealers used to offer a "try before you buy", pre-Covid. I need to drive it for just a day, and I'll know if it's too high.

I got used to it. I was looking for a small Tacoma in 2018 but Toyota only makes mid size now.

I thought about lowering it, I wouldn't do that myself, (not mechanically inclined) where would I take it and would that void the warranty?

I’ve seen lowered tacomas ad it looks funny. Stock suspension is about 9.5 inches of clearance where you step in and I would leave it alone. If you did lower it then I’m sure Toyota wouldn’t void your warranty but if you ever have suspension problems, then Toyota would blame you.

By your 05 being a lowrider, would I be right that it's 2WD?

    I have a 10 that's a 2WD and I know people ask if I lowered it, is why I ask.

I would think you could get used to it, you could always ask them to add a different type of side step if you don't like the one it has now. My wife drove a 96 4x4 when we met and at 5 foot 1 with back issues never had problems even without any kind of step bars.

We have a 2006 2-wheel drive access cab (for my son) and it sits pretty low. Easy in and out. I have a 2020 sr5 access cab 4x4. It’s definitely taller. The Toyota Predator steps work well as a step in and out. See if you can find a set installed on the lot to sample. Here’s mine.

I have a 2019 SR5 V6 Access Cab and I love it. I fits my needs just fine.

My truck before this one was a 2007 Colorado. After driving it for 12 years I considered it to be the perfect height. The Tacoma seems to be about 3 - 4 inches taller. (Maybe more!) I have gotten used to it, including using the side steps as an assist, but do sometimes find myself missing my Colorado.

Any suspension shop can do it . I would find ones that Would not drastically change the height . Far as warranty the dealer would have to prove that the suspension modification caused the issue. If you have it dealer installed it would not void your warranty. At least what I have been told in my local dealer . I would always get it in writing . Unsure if dealer would modify to lower it only heard of a lift .

I have the side steps like in the pic above on my 2020 ac sr5 v6 auto. Love the truck. It seems it takes time to break in the suspension. More miles i keep putting on it the better it rides. As far as its height...its already 2'' lower than my gen 1 tundra. I wouldn't want it any lower than that. I would of bought an awd suv instead.
