The 2 flat antennas are for 4g. One is the main and one is the diversity. It is good to separate them as much as possible. The Wi-Fi antenna is built into the unit.

I don’t use 4g so I just left them off.

I just stuck the gps one on the bar behind the radio and it works perfect.

Thanks for the reply. Most of what I use on this thing is going to sync through my phone I think. One less thing to worry about.

Hello everyone. I was just given this thread's link, as I posted my issue in the general audio section. I bought the Aucar unit for my 2010 TRD 4door, with JBL. While I like the unit, the sound quality is terrible. I'm reasonably sure it is because I upgraded my door speakers from the JBL units to the ones in Tacomaholic's youtube video, along with the Subaru tweeters in the front doors. My question is, does anyone here know what components would solve this? My sound is distorted, and is worse with higher volume. I have read it is because the stock amp doesn't provide the power the speakers now need. If anyone with this HU has done an amp install that will work with the speakers I installed, I would appreciate advice on how to proceed. My goal is for clear sound, not trying to have a competition system. ------Metalguy

Everyone out there with the JBL system and sound quality issues: did you ever get them ironed out?

I just installed the latest unit in my 2006 TRD off-road. My stereo sounded great before I installed this thing. It plays music and sounds fine until you turn it up. Door speakers start popping like they’re going to detonate. There’s obviously some sort of preamp/crossover issue going on that I can’t seem to figure out. Super bummed.

I doubt it’s your aftermarket speakers. Your issues sound just like mine.

I dont know much about the outputs of the Aucar unit nor how it wires up. And i dont know about the stock subaru speaker change. But my guess is that its not much different from the old school multimedia double din head units.

Back in my car audio days (over 30 yrs ago), we hardly ever paired an aftermarket deck with a factory amp and/or factory speakers. Especially when it was a factory upgrade like Bose, jbl, mark levinson, etc
Adding just a deck and using line-in stuff vs RCAs to wire to a stock amp just made the existing stock speakers sound like crap at hugh volumes. So did wiring aftermarket speakers to a stock deck.

I recall this was due to stock speakers with weird ohm ratings, stuff going on with the factory circuitry, etc

Good luck with it. My gut tells me if you guy bypass all the stock crap and wire up the Aucar to a real dedicated amp which powers up some qualified aftermarket speakers (not subaru)... you'll be golden.

Anyone that rather give up and sell the Aucar unit, hit me up.

I bought this amp:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0768BH91Z?smid=A1B32OZ9AIP1Q7 I bought a SKAR wiring kit, and intend to bypass the JBL amp completely now. I got the wiring diagram for the wires to the speakers, and will post here to give my results. Afterwards, the only JBL piece will be the sub itself.I also purchased a sub controller to adjust its output. I really didn't want to get into the wiring, but with the crappy sound, and lack of anything plug and play to fix it, I feel I have to, just to have an ok system. I love the truck, just hate the hassle of the JBL system, and its parts. I am reasonably sure this will net the results I am after: good, clean sound. --------Metalguy

I totally get what you’re saying. I was a car audio nut back in the 90s.

I’ve had this truck for 12 years now, and with the iPod adapter it got me by just fine. It shit the bed a couple months ago so I had to research getting this unit. I really thought it would be fine as statistically, no one complains about the shitty sound quality. Maybe I just have a more attuned ear or something. Looks like I’m shopping for a complete system now. :spending:

I think you're on the right track to improving the sound by bypassing the jbl amp. Im hoping the wiring diagram helps you with the wiring of the stock jbl speakers. I recall its a 2way component up front with a single speaker in each rear doors and a subwoofer. But I dont know how the X-over network works on these jbl systems and I'm leaning that the stock speakers are non 4ohm, etc.....so I guess if you are keeping those components in place, know that your expectations may be limited by this stuff.

I'm eager to hear if adding that Alpine amp improves things and makes it sound great or not.

I also feel like you're possibly only $300-600 (new speakers) away from making it sound awesome.

Hell to the yeah! There's not much like the quality of late 80s to 90s car audio. Good luck with your upcoming audio upgrades!

I'm teeter-tottering on buying the Aucar unit. It's been in my Cart so many times with discount codes, etc... soo tempeting!

SUMOTNK: I have already replaced the speakers, other than the sub. I installed The Rockford Fosgate ones that were in the Tacomaholic youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHJ95TTmFk8 I also installed the Subaru tweeters up front as per this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvkEY6FZ6Gs So literally, everything but the old JBL amp/subwoofer has been replaced, and sounds awful. So... the amp will go in, hopefully tomorrow, and I'll use it to power the speakers I installed already, and the old factory sub, completely bypassing the last of the JBL pieces. I am optomistic that at the very least, it should sound descent. Not crazy loud, or thumping, but good, at least. Ironically, the old JBL system sounded ok, I just wanted a more modern H/U at first.....then I saw how crappy the JBL speakers were, and, well, those had to go.... But the sound..wow it is bad. I guess I'll see if this is the answer. ------Metalguy

Success! I spent the weekend installing, and routing wiring, and checking/rechecking connections. It is a lot of work, but sound is clear now. JBL amp is out, Alpine amp is in. All I lack is a RCA splitter to hook up the sub, and it is done. I will have to modify the plastic piece that goes behind the seat if I want to reinstall it, but it is just off for now. Finally, so good sound.------Metalguy

if you don’t already have it download poweramp eq from the play store and go to the time alignment screen and set it up IMO that is the single most important dsp setting anyone can have, i wont buy any HU or dsp w/o it. you’ll be amazed at the imaging improvement

That’s awesome man. I’m still going back-and-forth on ‎WhatsApp with “Eric” to try and fix the problem. It’s not looking good at this point. I didn’t wanna buy a whole system yet, but it looks like that’s what I’m gonna have to do.
I have the latest version that’s got android 11 in it. They have a time alignment section in the standard settings. If only my sound quality was good enough to test it out. o_O
