I have a 2016 trd sport and anytime the traction light come on even if i havnt lost traction there is a terrible noise. It sounds like somthing is grinding on something else and seems to be coming from under my feet or right infront of them. Any ideas what it could be because im just worried something is getting screwed up

The ABS pump makes a grinding noise when it kicks on during low traction.

From my understanding it’s just the traction control working. Not sure of the mechanical science behind it, but it appears to be “normal” (think it’s the ABS Pump and other things activating). During these times you will also notice a huge loss in power as the computer is limiting the amount of throttle input you have in an attempt to help you regain traction.

It happened to me once when sitting on a steep uphill grade. Took foot off brake to hit the gas and I thought the gears were shedding parts....Couldn't figure out what I did wrong...crazy noises and grinding...found out here the truck was doing its job...!

The noise of the pump is normal, the traction control engaging when there's not a loss of traction is not normal. You could have a bad wheel speed sensor or another issue, I'd get it to a good tech.

Its happened on my truck to when starting off in deep snow, mud, or ice. You'll notice your traction led on the dash blinking like hell when it happens.

That's hill start assist. Not Toyota's most eloquent work because most people who experience it immediately think the truck is broke. Must come up on this forum once a week.

Is there a VSC calibration that could (should) be done like on the 2nd gens?
