my 2000 tacoma 2,7 liter had temp gauge reading 3/4 to hot rather than center as should be.
replaced temp sending unit and connecting pig tail wiring. No Help.
I told my friend that when I would stop and raise hood for short time, gauge would go to normal
but when running, it would go back up to 3/4 hot.
He told me it sounded like radiator not getting proper air flow. the radiator fan clutch was replaced last year.
His advice to home get some Coil Cleaner for A/C condensar cleaning, wet the ac condensar and radiator then SPRAY THEM WELL WITH CLEANER...let foam up for 5-10 minutes then rinse WELL with shower setting and fan setting on water hose..
    RESULT...
PROBLEM SOLVED.. hope this will help someone else Run Cool...

No, bugs in both condensor and radiator were stopping flow of air thru radiator..

I also have a 90 Mustang 350 hp and I can never understand how come my Tacoma gets more respect Just got a 99 Jeep TJ that I rebuilt, and painted in the garage
Mine was low on fluid. The switch on the4 firewall broke a hose connector. Just dry rotted away

I'm having issues with my temp gauge. It will go all the way to the redline and then drop under it. At times around 3/4 then rise up to red, lower down 7 so forth.

The first thing to do is figure out if it is your gauge or you are actually overheating. Throw and OBDII scanner on there and monitor your coolant temp. If the OBDII scanner is following the gauge, then your gauge is working and you are overheating which needs to be dealt with. It's also possible at that point that it is the coolant temp sensor rather than actually overheating, but you want to be careful so you don't further damage your engine.

Never let your engine get that hot. That's one thing that will kill the mighty Tacoma

Thats why the grill goes up with the hood is to blast the radiators out. Really shows there target audiance having moved away from that. Also know some people that run fine mesh over there radiators for easy cleanout.
