So I got the new SS3 foglights by Diode Dynamic that come with a backlight that can connect to either my DRL or my parking lights via a T-Tap, I can't find any pictures online of which wire I need to tap into, and the instructions that came with it are basically non-existent.

I know T-Taps are generally frowned upon but can anybody help me figure out which wires they would go to if I want to connect to my parking lights? I'm new to modding and don't feel comfortable soldering and don't want to add a fuse.

Bump. Anyone know which wire I'm meant to splice into?

Bump, I'm about to order some backlit SS3s and I'd love to know what the best way is to tap into the DRLs or maybe the parking lights. I'm not very handy with electrical wiring so if there's some harness I can buy I probably would go that route.

I ordered back kit ones myself, mistakenly Lol. I just didn’t hook them up to be honest. Capped the wire and the lights still work. Interested to hear what you guys do.

So these just tap into the parking/drl lights without running a switch inside? I'm wanting to add fogs to my rig (which did not come with any) as easily as possible.

Thanks @Tacomike18 I can make tees for both the SR and TRDs with halogen headlights, as well as the Full LED headlights. PM me if you need anything as that is the best way to get me. And if you are going the tap route, those Posi-Taps mentioned by @DeuceDeuceBravo are the way to go. If you have an SR, @caribe makaira diagram there is what you need to tap (pink on drivers side, blue on passengers side), if you have a TRD with halogen headlights, they are the same color for the parking lights, but it is a different plug. The plug will have a green as well as a white/black wire. If you want to tap the DRL, it will be that green one. And lastly, if you have OEM LEDs, the colors are still the same (pink/blue for parking, green for DRL). If you have LEDs though, be advised that the passengers side plug will have two blue wires. Make sure you tap the one that is in the same physical location as the pink on the drivers side.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a Tee? Would that still require me to cut and tap into my DRL wires?

When I refer to a tee, it is just a male and female connector with a short (3-4") piece of wire in between them, and a longer (really any length you want) wire coming off of it. So you would just unplug the exist plug from the head light, plug it into the tee, and plug the tee into the headlight where that plug came from. Let me see if I have a good picture.

Here is an example for a taillight. Same concept, just different connectors :)

cool, so for a DRL tee, the loose wire is tied to the DRL wire in the tee and then connects to the backlight power wire coming from the SS3 harness, right?

Yeah, that would be the idea. If you give me a length, I can ever terminate the end going to the SS3 in a Deutsch terminal if you don’t want any splices at all. You’d have to depin the existing connector for the SS3, but that isn’t hard to do

I’m not very experienced with splicing wires so that is probably a good idea for me. I’m not sure yet of the length. I take delivery of my Tacoma next week. I think 5 feet would be a conservative estimate.

Just got these. It was easy to tap into the headlight. You just clip the t tap into the blue and pink wire which is the middle wire on both.
