Can I tap into the wiring harness for the 7 pin trailer hook up?

I was thinking about taping into the reverse signal to power rear back up camera?

Maybe even power a backup LED light?

Anyone know the wiring diagram for that?

A test light/volt meter would tell you quick

I'm also curious about this. May use it to power my bed lighting? But most likely none are 12v always

Well, the black wire is battery, the white wire ground. You won't get a lot of amperage off of it. It's a trickle-charge system for trailer batteries, and from experience it really doesn't do jackshit for wattage. If you want to power anything from your truck you need a DC/AC inverter, either the stock 400W one on the OR models, or an aftermarket you wire in yourself.

Or a portable inverter generator, Honda/Yamaha/Champion, etc. Even those that have a DC port on them it's a trickle-charge 12v DC, takes forever to charge a 12v battery. My truck battery went dead and I hooked the generator up to it, an hour later I said heck with this, pulled a battery off of the trailer and jumped it right away. Since then I've been keeping an emergency jumpstart battery charged up from the 20A AC when I run the generator.

How many amps do you think it would provide? I was thinking about using it for LED bed lights. They should draw around 3A.

The center connection is for the reverse/surge brake wiring it should run your LED's Pin 4 (at 1:00) on your truck connector is 12 volt charge is usually is fused at 30 amps and on a Taco only comes on with the key it's meant to charge a trailer battery and will provide a fair amount of current.

I'd have to guess, and 8A max is my guess. I don't know for sure. 8A is what my generator provides, and that's what I'm basing my guess on.

The aux. terminal can be used and is often fused to 30a to provide a charging circuit for recreational trailer house batteries batteries.

A guy I work, with tapped into the reverse light on the trailer wiring to run a set of auxiliary back up lights on his F150. Should be the same for our trucks. It works really well for him.

I was going to do the same until I just put a work light on the headache rack.

Nope, hence why I said black is battery, white is ground.

I did, however, give some more information that might be interesting to somebody. Is that OK with you? Do I need to check with you for any post I make? Is it OK if I make a post that is more than one line, like yourself?

The reverse light fuse is 10 amps the truck lights use 4 amps that should be more than enough for your LED 3 amp light. The wire is purple and it is the center pin on the 7 pin trailer connection. The battery charge system is fused 30 amp the + is pin 4 the wire is black it is at 1:00 on you truck connection. The - is white it is at 7:00 on your connector it is pin 1. It is wired with a #8 wire capable of 30 amps so any thing below that will work.
