    Hey guys,
I don't know if this is in this is in the right forum, but I am thinking about attaching my old cb setup(from my ridgeline) onto my tacoma. It is a midland handheld with a wilson 1000 w/ magnet mount. I don't want to use the magnet mount cause it ruined the paint on my roof, so I am looking at tail light or hood mounts. However, can I simply take my 1000 out of the magnet coax mount and reattach it onto a different mount with a new coax cable or is part of the "coil" in the magnet mount itself? Thanks

I don't actually know the answer, but am subbing to hear the answer.

I do know there are some 'cats on the 1st gen threads that really know their way around CB radios.

You'll have to get a different antenna. Magnet mount antennas are no ground plane antennas and ground through the mount and coax.

    Firestiks are pretty inexpensive

Honestly for your purposes you will want to get a new antenna. NMO is the way to go for our trucks and gives a very good signal as the cab creates an excellent ground plane. If you don't want
To drill though, then mount a firestick to your bed liner rail and run a 12 other 10 Guage wire from the antenna mount to the frame as our beds don't make a proper ground. This will set us up well.

Well I have used the magnet mount before, but it traps dirt underneath the base and basically sands off clear coat. Dont want to use it on a new black truck haha

    Sorry to resurrect this :anonymous:

I’m liking into this as well. Couldn’t you just put clear vinyl on the roof and attach magnet to that?

That is certainly possible, but understand that the magnetic mounts use capacitance grounding...you just put a layer of plastic between those pieces of metal. Also the dirt and crap will just get trapped between the vynil and the truck instead.

I used to do the magnetic thing...then I finally just said screw it I want to be serious about high quality signal...so I went with a NMO mount for my antenna.....works like a champ....and if you ever did sell the truck, they make black flush rubber plugs that are water tight and look nice.
