    Hey !

So I'm looking to take my truck on the beach for the first time. I am a complete noob when it comes to this. I saw people let out some air in the tires before hand ? Could some kind person give me a quick how to by chance and what not to do ??

    Thank you!!

Airing down will definitely help on sand, but please remember to bring a pump to air back up! Driving on extremely low tires can make your truck unstable at highway speeds.
Typically, you want to be in 4wd before you get stuck, don't wait til you do, or you could just dig yourself deeper.
Sorry, that's all I have, I'm familiar "off-road" as far as farm and hunting, but not hardcore recreational stuff :D

Also realize, in 4wd, you should try to leave yourself a lot of room to turn. If you cut the steering wheel tight, you'll get some front axle binding and you'll feel it bucking,,, probably less of an effect on sand though, as it should allow tires to slip more.

Air down to 10-15 psi for sand and carry a pump to air up before hitting pavement.
Keep the truck in 4low and disable traction control.

I just returned from the Outer Banks of NC and drove on a mix of very soft, deep sand; and firm sand. I aired down my tiny tires (245/75r16) to 18psi, kept it in 4Hi and transmission in S3, and disabled traction control and went everywhere (length of Pole Rd and all along Ramp 55 access, Ramp 72 up and down Ocracoke Island, some sound-side ramps for those who know the area).

Air down, as stated above have the means to air up; keep momentum - stopping in soft, deep sand can result in you remaining there; try to follow tracks made by other vehicles; try to avoid sharp turns while aired down. If you're having trouble, air down some more. Most of all - have a blast! (we sure did!)

Air down. At least 20psi. Go down farther if you need to.

Momentum is your friend however do not start ot stop to abruptly.

4hi or 4lo. All traction aids off.

    Thats just about it.

aside from what everyone else has said, be smooth, you want to float on top of the sand. If you slam your brakes or take off from a stop you will anchor down

A shovel is a good idea, along with a tow strap and some traction boards or something you can toss under the wheels to get traction if/when you need it.

When you air down do not turn sharp... you will pop the tire off the bead and then the real fun begins. Here some hard core duners will go as low as 8psi.

Also bring some wood boards and a jack. Lots of good advice from other people on this thread.

Just like everyone has said air down, no fast start and stops, wide turns, and have fun! Some places you go do have a list of required items to carry so check in advance.

Don’t be afraid to gas it, give it some throttle to get up on top of the sand.

If you’re in 4hi hold the ESP button for 5+ seconds to disable VSC (vehicle stability control) which can cut power when a wheel starts to spin/slip
    Or just use 4low

Its a mixed bag. If driving across a beach, closer to the waterline firms up the sand and its easier to drive on. Caveat: It puts you closer to a watery grave if you get stuck.

I have driven hundreds of miles of beaches over the years. I have learned to heed the high tide mark. I will gladly dig out than chance losing my truck!
