New member to the Toyota family, just bought my first Toyota off Craigslist, used, truck is in great shape, drives smooth, can’t even feel it shift, drives really awesome honestly.
    It’s a 2006 regular cab, 2.7 base model.
I need y’alls help. So my key won’t twist. It did this 3 times Friday, but I got it to work twice by shaking the steering wheel/twisting the key. Well the 3rd time, no luck at all. Key is useless besides locking/unlocking the door.
I’ve tried almost all the tricks trying to get the key to twist. How can I get the lock out Without the key turned to ACC.
    Also, no immobilizer, correct?

Ignore the extremely poor electrical tape masking job.

You can drill it right down the center. The only problem is you need to know how to do it.
There is a major risk of damaging the housing if done wrong.
Not much else you can do.

Now that I have scared you.
Bring your reg to a Toyota dealer.
Ask them to cut you a key by vin.
75% of the time a correct key is the solution.

This isn’t the original lock in the first place, so getting a key by vin wouldn’t work?
Drill it straight down the center? Can you elaborate a little more

    Oh crap
    Not original......

Forcing it won’t help move it. Install, try ,jiggle, remove turn the key over, try again.
I spent a lunch time one day doing this on a tow in. Took me 20 min but I got it to turn.
Takes only once. Saved him the drill.

    Hard to explain.
    Drill size varies
    Depth varies.
Start with drill size slightly bigger than key width.
1/4 inch at a time ,blow out the chips. Go 3/4 of an inch.
    Try a screwdriver to turn.
Watch your depth with another cyl.
Make sure your key in buzzer switch and all removable items are off.
    Then go slightly bigger drill.
I’ve done a lot of them over my career.
    It’s a technique
    A learned skill
    Patience is a virtue...
Go slow and take your time and think of what your doing.

You will need to be a little lucky the first time.

Put the key in the cylinder and tap, hit the end of the key while turning it.

Would it be possible to drill out the inside (like described above) and use a flathead to start it?

Once you get the lock cyl assembly out ?
No it's a male connection to the cyl IIRC

Seriously. I had to whack it pretty good to get it to turn.

    Sometimes that will work.
I drill as a last resort. But you need to watch the lower internals of the switch housing also.
The Ford Focus had issues years ago with ign cyl.
Towed many a ford because of that. Ended up with a small hammer and doing what you did and got them started and told them to drive right to the dealer.

Tape the drill bit the length of the key...
