I think I put a dent in one of my roof ribs while reaching over to wash the roof. Its super thin sheetmetal I guess. At least I think that's what happened, I'm honestly not sure.

I'm thinking I should drop the headliner in back and push the dent back out.

Anyone pulled down the headliner in the back before?

Maybe lie on your back and push with your feet gently? Or is it really dented in?

I placed my hand on the rib while reaching with the other to wash towards the front of the truck and it just caved in a bit.

I don't think it will be all that hard to push out with my hand, however, I have to get around the headliner first.

they have dent pullers that attach with hot glue and pull the dents out. I would go that route if i cared (but i dont remotely care about any dent on my roof that no one would ever see)

I don't think it's any thinner than the rest of the truck. Roofs in general aren't designed to take weight and can easily flex. As a kid I used to cave in the roof of my grandfather's pickup all the time with my body weight. It had a different design so it would pop back out on its own, but either way, it isn't designed to take weight.

As for the headliner, I haven't personally done it, but I had the 3rd brake light recall done which required pulling the liner. You can't tell the liner was pulled, in case that's a concern for you.

But honestly, its the roof. Assuming this is a door ding sized dent, how often are you actually going to even notice it?

I pushed one out in my truck without even removing the headliner. Just pushed.

before you make it worse, just contact a PDR person in your area. (Paintless Dent Repair). it may be more cost effective than you think. and... when you make it worse, it will cost more to fix. Ski

I used one of these when when a branch fell on my roof. Fixed the dent perfect.

Yes, anytime there is a dent even like what you described the metal has been stretched, popping it back will get it 90%

How are you getting the light out, without accessing the retainer screws for the lamp from the inside under the headliner? you need to at least drop the liner in the rear to access them, to remove the lamp, to add the new gasket, or lamp. no external retainers/screws on the lamp. Ski

to fix it correctly you need to drop the headliner, Toyota decided to fix it from outside. when you sell as many trucks as they do making a cheap fix is top priority.

I acquired a dinger in my rear quarter panel from a careless person with a shopping basket. Took one of these 110 lb suction cups, and pulled 99% of it back. You have to really look close to see where it was.
