Anyone know a hack for getting the tailgate cables to stay in when closed? Mine always stick out between the gaps.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
The back of your bed is spread apart . Might also be the tail gate is bent Maybe both.

Figure out just what then go from there.

Pull it back into place and make some bed stiffeners to hold it in place about all you can really do to fix this issue.

Interesting. Never thought that might be the issue.

Are they Toyota or aftermarket? I had a set of aftermarket cables and they would pop out. Got some "real" ones and they don't do that.

Since my tailgate got lots of heavy impacts I changed those cables every year.

    I bought mine from Napa

Changing these things before they break is something I didn't do. Sat down on the gate and they both let go, they were super corroded, certainly something to keep an eye on!

    Ouch !! I venture it was a surprise !!

In my case a few dollars every year compared to dropping a few thousand dollar welder was a wise investment.

Seal both ends of the tailgate cable sleeves at the crimp with JB Weld to prevent water from entering the sleeve and being trapped in the cable. When mine broke the corroded cable was wet from water trapped in the cable.
After I did this, I no longer have to change the tailgate cable frequently.

Can’t have a loose bed. Loose electrical connections are also to be avoided. As with most things in life, tighter is better.

    Good idea!!
But I changed mine because of the weight being dropped on my tailgate by Fork Lift operators on their first day.

I don`t need to be buying expensive machinery if my tailgate cables break.
