My 2016 tailgate started binding when closing on the passenger side. I see there is what looks like a rubber cap that goes on the little post on the tailgate and then slips into the slot on the bed. Every parts website i've been on want's to sell me a new hinge. Can you just buy the little rubber cap? Sorry if this has come up before, I tried a search and couldn't find any reference to this. Thanks

If I see that right then it looks like the worn/torn section is in a flat. So that should not be wearing unless a rock/etc got in there when closing.

You can pull that up, like you were going to remove the gate and see if it needs cleaning in there. Just be careful of the backup camera wire.

Oops, forgot to even notice that it was not the OP that posted that. Maybe the OP has one that got torn up much worse.

It has only been 45 minutes. The OP should report back before the end of the day. Then you superheroes can swoop in and save the day. ;)

There is an updated part number, you can only get the entire hinge. The rubber piece is no longer available

Yes, it looks like that. I won't see the truck for a couple of weeks, but I will check that out. Thanks everyone for the replies. I was surprised by the fast results

I did not do anything to confirm fit, but my hit does look about the same. If it does fit then it looks like you can get two for less then one of the ebay Tacoma dinguses:

Dinguses, I'm not sure I've ever heard the plural before. I would have thought the plural would be Dinguii or something similar. o_O
So for $10 it's worth getting it, and having an extra on hand. It does appear to have the plastic pin with the flaired tip. I think the chances are good it's going to work. :burnrubber:

Finally fixed it. Thanks everyone for the input. Before going on vacation I ordered the part that Stftaco recomended on EBAY. After ordering, I read another post somewhere that said Toyota changed this hinge from what came on the early '16 Tacomas (bought mine (9/15), and the hinge would have to be changed out to the new style (which means removing the bumper to get to it). While the part from EBAY was too tight to fit over the hinge piece on the bed, I was able to slightly increase the opening size in the new part and it fit. Good old Dewalt drill and a sharp wood chisel made it work. I don't know how long it will last as I made the walls of the part thinner, but if it lasts half as long as the first one (8 years) I will be happy with the $13.00 fix.

Reckon how hard it is to change that hinge out? Anybody got any idea?
