Hi folks, I’ve searched the forum and the internet without success. Does anybody know if the OEM tailgate lock on a 2019 TRD Sport has its own fuse? Mines quit working and I have to lock and unlock it manually. The backup camera works.

I bought a new handle assembly thinking that might be the problem, but it wasn’t. I pulled the “tail” fuse from under the dash, but that just killed the taillights.

I bought, but haven’t installed it yet, a new cable that goes from the truck to the lock/backup camera assembly, so I’m hoping that does the trick.

If that doesn’t work, I’m out of ideas. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers.

The OEM power tailgate taps into the passenger door lock/unlock. Is your passenger door locking and unlocking? If not it's probably whatever fuse that controls that.

Thanks so much. Yes, the passenger door lock/unlock works fine. I’ll install the new cable later today and see if that does the trick. I was just hoping it had its own dedicated fuse and that it might be a super easy fix. That’s super helpful knowing if my passenger door works then my tailgate should work. Thanks!

If you press your key fob can you hear the actuator in the tailgate lock? If so it might have just fallen off.

If the tailgate lock is OEM there are 2 fuses at the harness connection to the vehicle door lock behind the passenger's kick panel:

Now find out if you have an exposed/nicked wire from there to the tailgate.

Thanks BlarBlarJosh and Caribe. You guys are great. I’ll install the new cable tomorrow and will let you know. The tailgate and wiring is all OEM.

There’s no noise when I hit the FOB but the cables were secure. I was testing it with the tailgate stripped down. Great to know where the fuses are. Thanks so much.

Well don’t I feel like an ass. My truck (2019 TRD Sport) doesn’t have a FOB locking and unlocking tailgate. Just the backup camera. Oh well, I’ve got a new tailgate and hardware. I bent the tailgate slightly which is what prompted this whole exercise. If someone asked me if I had an automatic locking tailgate this morning I would have said yes. I guess I spend too much time driving work trucks with automatic locking tailgates and started to believe mine was too.

Thanks for all your help guys. At least I’ll know where the fuses are likely to be on my next Tacoma in ten years or so.

The OEM tailgate lock kit can be added for <$150... It’s worth it. No need to wait 10 years..

Only one fuse for the vehicle door lock circuit, if it fails no door lock functions.

This. Just installed one on mine this last weekend. Was really simple to do, after looking up the instructions online of course.

This good to know. I was wondering what those boxes were during the install.

That's what I would have assumed, just seemed weird that his door unlocked but not the tailgate. Makes more sense now that there is no power lock on his tailgate.
