Stock with a camper shell for now.
I’m trying to re wire my camper shell for the LED light and third taillight/ break light from the truck I just bought that was chewed up from a dog.

I pulled the tail light to find three wires with splices from them but not sure what wire is tied to what to run new wires from the tail light to the camper shell led and third break. It clearly had a black and red wire coming from the led as well as the third tail light that I assume is a ground and power so I have to rebuild and splice that back together as well make a plug for it.

on the tail light side there are three wires coming from the taillight housing so I’m trying to figure out how to wire them into a plug and from a plug to the camper shell.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
I was able to get a premade harness for my Leer 180 from someone at TW. Trying to remember who it was. It was a total P&P for the cap dealer's folks.
I'll do a quick check of past messages here and update this response.
EDIT: I think it was @Puppypunter on TW.

    @daveeasa, @Puppypunter

Am I out of line suggesting you may have some initial guidance figuring out a mess someone else created here? If out-of-line, I apologize.

The dog chewed the truck, or the third brake light wire? :rofl:My little Poms are a little bigger than most squirrels, so they might be able to get up there...
Anyway, they easiest way to do it is this: Tacoma 2016 - 2023 Brake T Harness | FBC Harness Solutions (square.site) That has the wires broken out from the taillight. Then you would just attach the blue wire from that harness to the red wire on the brake light. The white wire with the black stripe from the harness would go to the black wire on the brake light. Does this help?
If you are trying to splice into the truck wiring itself, blue is brake + and white/black is ground. I advise against this method just becasue the way those taps work will lead to issues with the wiring a few years down the road.

Unfortunately it was already wired and spliced but then his dogs chewed on the wires coming in from behind the taillight up to the led in camper shell and third brake light of the camper shell so I’m trying to fix it now.

I tore it apart and the led and third brake from leer are not serviceable lights they are hard wired into it so I will have to add a splice and tie them in to the remaining wires behind the tail light with some type of connector.

if anyone has any advice on connectors?

A heat shrink type butt connector or a solder type butt connector should be good. There isn't a lot of amperage there fortunately

What I’m confused about is that there are four wires from the camper shell two black and two red but then there is only three wires coming out of the tail light a thick black one a red on and a red and white so I’m not sure how they are wired and if I need a plug that goes from three to four

Ahh, ok. Does your shell have a light in it? Like a cargo light type of thing?

Ground is common to all. You probably have a TAG like the rest of us. Photos would help clarify. One ground feeds the fuse box and then is distributed to dome, chmsl, and aux.

Yes it does have a led cargo light on the inside and the a third brake light on the outside and backside of the led light that holds it into the camper shell by two screws that sandwich together to two.

No tag unfortunately I think who ever the leer dealer was installed and wired it up or if there was a tag it probably is in the dogs stomach now haha

Note the colors you cite match TAG colors.

    Photos would help...

I will try and get some pictures today and pull the tail light to show what I’m working with

I now understand the confusion after some research the tag box you were talking about no longer exists in this camper so i basically have to make my own wiring harness off of the remaining wires and with that being said since there is no longer the leer tag fuse box, I imagine I should include a waterproof fuse into the system but where should I tie it in to (what wire)? I assume the power coming from the existing wires from the tail light? Also what amp fuse was or is provided in the tag fuse box ?

Tag fuse box can be re-added.

    https://truckoutfittersplus.com/Topper-Fuse-Box-Only.html

I bought one for my Leer on the 2002 Tundra. It’s not incredible but it’s decent and an OK standard in my book.

If you’re doing any of my tag harness options you don’t need the wires, just the fuse box itself.

might be available elsewhere too, shop around and see if you can beat that price.

I was thinking of working it in with a three prong weatherproof trailer plug and adding a mountable fuse into the system

So at this point I’m trying to figure out how the wiring would go to make my own wiring harness. I think I have most of it figured out but need to figure out the fuse needed and what one to purchase.
