Does anybody think that there should be an app for this sight? I feel like it could add a few options for uploading posts easier, being slightly more convenient, and cleaner appearance for the ones who use this on their phones? I also think it could add a cool feature where you can track a trip or trails and share them with other users here. Just my opinion though

I'm on my phone on here 98% of the time, and it works better than most sites on mobile.

The mobile site seems pretty good to me as far as mobile sites go. Not sure an “app” is really necessary

Apps are a ton of work and for an app to be worth a damn it takes money. Then you run into ads or having to pay for the app. Then you start losing the interest of a lot of people.
Your idea is awesome though, I just don’t think the forum would stay the same.
But I could be way off, that’s just my simple knowledge of Apps lol.

Writing them isn't super hard, but maintaining an app on 2 different platforms over the long run is a huge commitment.

I'm surprised this site is free as it is.

Is tapatalk pretty bad? I always get prompted to use it when I’m googling random things.

Yeah I get that. I’m an iPhone guy, but regardless, I can’t see it being any easier and simpler than using the browser.

I personally feel an app would be better if it's done right. I find it cumbersome to try and navigate multiple threads on my phone browser, but maybe I'm not doing it right. I downloaded the TacomaForum.com app and really find it much easier to navigate than the phone browser. After using it, I found myself wishing TW had an app.

If I could ask for one single thing( which an app would solve), it would be notifications. I hate having to constantly check the site. LOL 1st world problems

It's the same reason you get the best prices from the vendors with a $50 marketing budget: they focus on the product, which in this case is the forum. Writing an app may or may not be feasible, but there's no doubt you'd be paying $5yr-$3mo to use the forums that used to have a free tier.

Their decision seems to be the same as what's done across a lot of these automotive forums, which is to use whatever service is maintaining these forums (they all look the same) and to stick to one platform, which is most likely php, HTML, css, js etc.. (languages web browsers can read).

I'd guess that there's a "big name" in the automotive forums SAAS market, and someone is maintaining a huge server, or set of them, that hosts a lot of forums, and serves them as HTML and CSS to the browser.

I'd guess that said "big name" also offers a service tier with an app for iOS, Android, W10, Mac etc, but TacomaWorld has chosen not to use that tier. Maybe because they figure their userbase doesn't want an app, and the additional cost to maintain it couldn't be spread across only the app users.

Or. I could be completely off the mark. This is 100% speculation.
