Trying to make this quick. Previous owner put in kill switch, janky work, I was messing with it and the wire grounded out (my dumb ass didn’t undo battery). The truck would crank but not start, I checked fuses and found the 7.5 amp ignition fuse under dash was blown. So I replaced. Now it won’t even crank. Any ideas lol.

Maybe check the 40A AM1 fuse?
If that doesn’t work, it’s going to be easier to pull the Sta Relay and check for power and ground.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Well, at least the previous owners intent was successful so there is that.

I really need to get more tools at home haha. All my stuff is at work. I believe the am1 is good. The starter relay does seem to click on and off when I turn key.

Yeah, it would help if you had a test light or voltage meter handy.

So I can jump the starter by runnng a jumper wire instead of relay. But it just turns over. Bought a new relay because I broke the old one. So relay is not issue. I have volt meter now. What should I be testing. I’m confused cause the starter will only work if jumper wire is there. Won’t turn over with new or old relay.

Update. With the key on, and a jumper wire in place of the starter relay truck starts right up. It’s not relay. I’ve tried 2.

Yes, it’s likely a relay control.
What you need to do is pull the relay and see if you have power to the relay on the CONTROL side.
Pin #5 of the ST Relay is power all the time.
Pin #1 is power when cranking - this is likely where your problem is.
Pin #2 is Ground - No power.

ST Relay is the bottom center in the picture below.

I am getting now power to the one. I follow a wiring diagram and nex down the line is the clutch safety switch (manual trans). I have no power on that. So the next thing after this I believe is the 7.5amp fuse under the dash on driver side. That fuse was the original fuse blown, I have replaced it. I am getting power at the fuse. My question is what is the next step. If I’m not getting power at the clutch safety switch. Obviously I would jump it to get by but I’m not even getting power. Am I missing something in between?

Ok, so let’s get this straight

You do have Power to the STA Fuse?
No Power to the Clutch Start Switch?

My diagram is for a 2000 Tacoma, but it should be close.
The Black/Red wire on the Clutch Switch will be power from the STA fuse.
The Black/White will be power out of the switch when the clutch is pressed.
Remember, you have to be cranking the engine to check for power.

to clarify we are talking about the same fuse where is the sta fuse. I don’t have my fuse cover anymore in the interior. The fuse I’m talking about is a 7.5amp that controls ignition. Where is the one you’re talking about.

So that fuse was fine. Technically. The reason it wasn’t cranking was because I took it out earlier. Forgot to put it back in. So now it is cranking. But won’t start, and now that I plugged that fuse in the check engine light does not come on when I put the key in. Like doesn’t come on with all the other lights during the light check. And it just cranks.

Do you hear the fuel pump prime with key on, engine off? On models a couple years later than yours that fuse controls power to the control side of the fuel pump relay as well. Maybe the fuel pump relay control side coil got fried.
