Hi Guys/ Gals....I'm new to these forums. I have been wanting to buy a first gen Tacoma for a while now and have come across a very nice looking truck in incredible condition for it's age. The price is right and the package (6cyl/4wd) is what I'm looking for but the truck has 500K miles on it. Carfax says no accidents, loads of service records and only one owner. I'm thinking it's all highway miles as the interior looks basically spotless. I haven't seen the truck in person yet as I'll have to travel a few hours to view it. I'm just wondering if you guys would even consider buying a truck like I've described with that many miles?

Frame frame frame.... and more frame inspection... mileage is just a number, if everything else is great and the price is fair, buy it.

It’s all about the deal. Major component replacements are reasonable on these trucks. If the frame is solid, and you can afford to replace something significant when it craps out, go for it!

I read that head gaskets are something to be addressed at around 400k. Might want to see what kind of repairs he have done.

    Pics.?

and if the price is right, it could be fun to try to continue past 500k. Solid frame and if all components are functional, gets around 20 on the hwy? would be an indication its still got life in it

Frame rust x20 signicant leaks and stored codes. Take a code scanner if you can & check if the inspection is current. Mainly for exhaust components and codes preventing it from passing.

Check for maintenance records and get the truck inspected by a QUALIFIED mechanic who knows these trucks.

#1. Valve train issues, yes valve train tolerances must be checked. As the valves wear into the seats the tolerance becomes tighter. You don't want that with solid overhead valve lifters.

    #2. Compression test all cylinders.

#3. Suspension components like rear leaf springs, front springs.

    #4. Steering components.

    #5. Rear axle seals, bearings.

    #6. Front and rear differentials.

    Thats just a start.
