So I been talking with some Aussie buddies and they have been telling me about how Toyota has really been dropping the ball on us with the Tacoma, and that the Hilux is 10x the truck. Not really sure what to think on that, I want to hear yawl's opinions on the matter.

I don't know much about the mechanical differences between the two, but the Tacoma is definitely the better looking sister.

Its spelled "y'all", as in "you" and "all" put together. As for the possessive form...that's up to you. I've seen "yall's" and "y'all's" or even "y'alls". Now that I think about it, your way might be best.

    You're welcome :D

Go on to Toyota.com.au or something and take a look at the interior. I'll have my Tacoma vs a hilux based on interior looks and prettiness basically. That's just me, blast away if you want, but I like my larger, prettier, more comfy truck. It would be nice to have a Sfa for wheeling, but I don't typically have to wheel on my way to work everyday. If I were in Australia, my tune may be different. Also check out the conversion rates for cash, they are spending a whole lot more than we are. My .02, but you are the one who asked :)

When I was in Australia last I rode in a few of the older version Hiluxs. They were more truck like and seemed a lot tougher than the Tacoma then. I would've loved to have been able to get on here.

The newer ones sure are ugly. If Toyota butchered the mechanics as much as they did the looks I'd take the Tacoma now.

Since y'all is technically not a word or even a recognized contraction you can probably spell it how you want. But "y'all" is the way I've always been told is correct.

I used to try and avoid y'all and ain't etc, but then I traveled for a living a while and realized people could tell where were I was from regardless. Now I embrace it. Fuck em, if they's fixin'ta judge me, it's their problem.

This, plus two Hiluxes have been to the north pole, that's no crappy truck.

My thoughts exactly. A second generation Tacoma Sport with the Hilux's engine/transmission combination would be simply awesome.

I had a fully loaded hilux and now have a TRD offroad Tacoma. Having owned both a Hilux and a Tacoma, I will say this... The hilux is definitely much better built than the tacoma. It is a stronger sturdier truck.

The interior are almost the same between my hilux and tacoma. The hilux had a floor shifter for the transfer case (something i wish the tacoma had)

The torque on the hilux was amazing... i once pulled a dump truck full laden with weight out of mud. I had to install the TRD supercharger on the Tacoma to get the torque similar to the hilux

The Tacoma does have a boxier truck like stance rather than the sedan look of the hilux.

There really cannot be a comparison between these two because they were both built for different markets and cater for different needs of the population.

If i remember when I get home, I'll plaster some pics of the hilux up.:D

I was just being obtuse. I think y'all is a perfectly acceptable word. I grew up with it, just like many people grow up with various local words.

Funny story: I had a lot of friends in college from Ethiopia, and the first thing I always taught the new arrivals was the non-English words they'd hear - words like y'all, wanna, gotta, fixin to, etc....that way they weren't confused by words that weren't in the dictionary. They knew and could speak English EXTREMELY well.

Right on! But I think its "fiddin'a" ;)

    Anyway...sorry for the thread derailment.

Aussie Hilux at the higher trim levels has the same 1GR gasoline engine, same transmission/drivetrain and same front suspension. The Hilux has far stiffer rear leafs for greater payload, which results in harsh ride when empty. The Hilux has a fully-boxed frame which may or may not be stronger, but doesn't translate to higher towing capacity. (Remember strength /= stiffness)

The most punishing usage for these trucks is probably high-speed desert mobbing with all the jumps. I don't see many Hilux trucks used for this role, but I do see a lot of LT Tacomas.
