So I recently started working for an off-road company and they are interested in seeing if people are interested in trail doors. I know Fab Fours has them at a ridiculous price. Our price point we are shooting for is less than half of theirs estimating between $700-900 range and was curious if we do test fit and go into production who would be interested in the doors ? Would love to hear feedback on if anyone actually has the fab four doors with pros and cons !

Ok, I hate to seem stupid, but what is a trail door?

I'd definitely entertain the idea of a trail door for my taco that isn't a janky fit and doesn't look gaudy, especially now that it's pretty much a dedicated off-roading rig and I don't daily anymore.

Edit: also as long as it includes some well thought out mirror integration as well, and works overall with the rest of the body style.

And thats what we want to go for something that fits nice, matches the body lines and of course no rattling. Its definitely not a necessity purchase but moreso something to have on the trails and when its hot out to drive around and feel the open air !

Would there be a modified hinge system so you could swap between OEM doors with glass and locks and all and these trail doors, or is it a once-and-done? I'm thinking the once-and-done approach wouldn't net much interest.

Good heaven’s, trail doors are just for appearance sake. Just do what old Jeepers do. Take the doors & top off and fold down the window.

So we are open to options but as far as right now goes im sure we can figure something out to have a easy bolt on system for the doors to definitely make it a one man job without any hassle

I would honestly love a set to throw on my truck when we go offroading. Unfortunately, the price point for FabFours is wayyyy too high for my liking. Almost $2200 before shipping? That's more than most decent bumper and winch combos, and those are a necessity. I wouldn't spend $2200 on something for aesthetics unless I were to win the lottery.

As for design, they look sleek enough, but I would like something I could put my foot out, like with Jeeps. From the appearance and design of the FF doors, they angle down to soon and too steep to be able to throw your foot out the door while it's closed.

Lastly, I'd like to be able to take them off and toss them in the back seat or the truck bed if I have to drive home through a thunderstorm. Easy removal is definitely ideal.

Added benefit to me would be visibility when crawling. The tiny windows and pillars make for a terrible experience trying to see around obstacles and I want to be able to see shit without having to do yoga from the drivers seat.

I agree with this but unfortunately at least in California you have to have side mirrors and the Tacoma has them attached to the door. It's definitely a more just for looks purchase with a little safety in mind

I for one would be a lot more comfortable knowing there's something keeping me from being crushed by rocks in the event of a rollover. Being intentionally unsafe isn't cool or badass anymore. Live to drive another day.

I must have missed that in my owner's manual. What page was folding my Taco window down on?

When you pull the top off a Jeep, you still have the pillars acting as a roll cage

4xinnovations have tube doors for 3rd gen for just under $600 for all 4. No mirror integration or anything though.

Yeah these are the points we are trying to hit. Cause me personally I would love to have doors on my truck but FabFours again are insanely pricy and that's why we want to make something that's a great product but also more affordable for someone that makes an average living and not 2k for doors that will be ran on an occasion. But we do want to follow body lines and in a sense copy jeep trail doors but make them flow with the Tacoma and I agree with this 100% something that can throw the doors on and off quick just in case you get stuck in the rain cause that's not fun at all theres a lot of ideas in the air right now for how we are gonna do this but definitely want to get the communities opinion on this cause we dont want to produce door and then have all this money in R&D and no one get them haha
